So, last Saturday I headed into the city for my first dress hunting outing. An old acquiantance I had run into the week before suggested RK Bridal on 39th. She spoke highly of them, but warned there would be no bells or whistles. You don't make an appointment...you walk in, put your name on a list, pick out dresses from the samples which are right on the floor to view, and wait to be called by a consultant who will help you from there.
From the days leading up to this outing, I was sick to my stomach. I'm a 20W and I felt defeated before I even began - not because I'm unhappy with me (I love me!) but bridal gown samples?? In my size???
To my surprise RK has over 100 dresses in 18W+ - lots of styles, lots of sizes. And, any of the other gowns they carry can be ordered in plus size. But, I was just happy to see something I could try on....even if most of the plus size designs make me want to hurl.
Well, six dresses down and I had a good idea of what I didn't like... and then one more dress. Ladies, it was PERFECT. It fit me like a glove - it was flattering - and I got a feeling I NEVER EVER expected to experience in my hunt for a dress, let alone that very day. I was standing in my wedding dress! I peeked at the price tag, began to laugh, and walked out to my mom and aunt who immediately began to cry. They saw it too! This was it.
Now for the best part.... As I stood in the dress, all I could do was giggle. It was beautiful, but my mom asked the all important question, "How much?"
Drum roll please....
$350!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My dress was $350 and that's $60 less than my mom's wedding dress 33 years ago!!!
The consultant got me a veil (which costs 1/3 of the dress LOL!) and I was set!!!
RK was painless and perfect. I woudl recommend them to anyone. but especially plus size brides.
One thing though... two other friends bought dresses there, but had nightmare experiences with alterations, so I decided to take mine to a local tailor I trust.
That's it! I hope you're experiences are as good as mine!
