NWR- Help name our kitty!

lol Long story short, she showed up crying on our doorstep two weeks ago (the day after FI's grandfather died). She's little...not sure how old, no more than 6 months I'd say, and pretty beat up. She's a tuxedo (black and white). We already have two cats but after FMIL giving FI a guilt trip that it was a sign from her deceased father (it was funny, actually), he decided to let me keep her :)

I scheduled her a vet appointment for tonight and they asked me her name...uhhh she doesn't have one. So now in our online vet account, we have our other two "Louie, Pebbles"...and "New Kitten" lol She desperately needs a name!!! FI likes Lucky, but I kinda think of it as a boy's name, plus there are 10 billion animals named Lucky in this world.

Here is the phone pic of her on our doorstep when I first discovered her (crying, not hissing!)...then the one we took when we got her cleaned up (she's staying with FMIL while until we get her checked out by the vet.) Any name suggestions???

Re: NWR- Help name our kitty!

  • Hallie means unexpected gift

or you could name her Maeble
  • Don't have any suggestions but had to laugh.  We had a black lab growing up and were never cat people (and my brother was serevely allergic).  In high school, I found a cat in our garbage can in the garage and so I gave her some tuna and warm milk.  Bad move #1, lol.  Of course she wasn't going to leave.  My parents agreed we could keep her as an outside cat and I decided to name her Scarf....because when I gave her the tuna, she scarfed it down!

Good old Scarf moved into the house very quickly and ended up sleeping in my bed for years, until I went to college.  At which point, she moved in to sleep with my parents.  The dog never really liked her and my brother hated her, but she will always have a warm spot in my heart!

Sorry - know you didn't need the random story but thinking of a name for a stray cat that just appeared made me smile!  :)

Lucky does sound a little boyish...but I still like it!  You could do Lucy...like Lucky but a little more girlish.

  • Ooooh I totally thought of Maeble last night! Haven't ran that one past FI yet. I also mentioned Ella...like Cinderella, going from rags to...well, riches, in comparison lol He kind of liked it.

LandB-super cute story! I love when people take stray animals in <3

I like naming animals/things as if they were people.

My dog's name is Rufus (he's a 8lb yorkie). My plant's name (yes, plant) is William.

Edit: It's a GIRL cat, huh. So, Matilda. Or, Barbara. Or Nancy.

  • Awh so cute :)  Glad you get to keep her and I totally believe she could be your FI's grandpa :)

I will give a list of all of my old cats names and my grandmas for ideas, prudens, abigail, bert, misty, onyx, molly, zoe, shalimar

Lol when me and my brother were little our cats were named bert and ernie after the cartoon.  I think shalimar is a cool cats name.  Awh all of them were so special.

Walter lol They called him Duke though...so if the cat was a boy, that'd be an awesome cat name!

Thanks for the suggestions so far, ladies!!

  • Oh, she's so cute!

If we get another girl kitty, I am naming her Sprinkles.

FI and I joke that when we buy a house, we are getting abig St. Bernard, which is my dream and her name will be Winnie.
    • You could name her Penny. I have a puppy with that name, I love it. She's our lucky penny!
  • I never knew what Hallie meant- and I really like that name!!

No help here- our dogs' names were Shana, Goldie, KC (all girls) then the boys were TIbbs, Kirby, and now Tucker.

Ok, this one would have been a really good one!

You guys all gave such cute suggestions. We did end up going with Ella...kind of spur of the moment lol We got through her vet appointment and as we were checking out, I was like "Ella...her name is Ella" lol If I had to fork over that kind of money for her, she needed a name!!! Of course, she will never learn it because it's all soft letters, but we are dorky and like to rhyme names...so she will probably get called "Ella Bella" or something. We are going to bring her home tonight <3

FTR, she checked out fine...just has a flea allergy which is why she has scratches/scabs everywhere. They gave her an antibiotic injection to help those heal, and she got other shots as well. No live fleas, either, but we put the treatment on her too. She was such a good girl for the vet!! They loved her :)
