  • I don't tan. I'll buy the Jergen's lotion stuff that enhances your skin tone, just to even my legs out after winter, but other than that, nothing.
  • Don't use tingling lotion if you've never done it before.
I used it once, and by the time I was done tanning I was red all over. I was allergic to the "tignlers" in it I guess.

I don't do anything now because of the tan tax and spray tans just don't do it for me.

  • I've done spray tanning twice at a salon and I was pleased with the results. The tan started to fade after abut 3 weeks and it was a gradual fade.

  • Spray on tan, but it has to be done by a human, not a machine.

  • Always use a green based tan (no matter if it's spray tan or self tan), that will stop you going orange.

I love the St. Tropez self tan, it's a little expensive, but amazing. The mousse is good if you like a slightly darker, but still natural tan. The tan intensifier is only 80% as strong, and a dark coloured cream, so a little lighter.

Always exfoliate and moisturize the day before. The day of, exfoliate any extra dry bits again. You can apply a little moisturizer to your ankles and tops of feet. Wear gloves!

Start with 1 section of your legs eg, bottom part of legs, then front of thigh, then back. Rub the tan in circles, not up and down, to prevent streaks, and rub it till it's completely absorbed before moving on the next section. When you do your feet, blend the tan into the moisturizer so you don't get any start/stop lines.

St.tropez have great directions on the bottles, and they have brochures with the retail products.

I find the small bottle of mousse does 10 legs tans, or 6 full tans.
    Good luck!

Oh I believe it. When I joined my gym the dude asked if I was interested in a free tanning session. I looked at him crazy and he was like 'what? I tan sometimes' and he also was black and a body-builder type.

    Thanks Cassandra! =)

  • I'm a fan of the True Blue spa products at Bath and Body Works.  They smell good and there are a few different kinds so you can choose the one you like best.  I have the kind with the bronzer in it so you can see where you put it and I have the kind that's more of a gradual tan with SPF, and I prefer the bronzer one.

Like PP said, make sure to exfoliate and moisturize dry spots beforehand.  I make sure to get my feet (especially ankles and toes), knees, and elbows to make sure they're not extra orange.  The first time I fake-tanned I skipped exfoliating because I was afraid it'd make it last longer if I hated the color...that was a bad idea. :)  In case you were wondering, THAT'S how you zebra stripe a ginger!

  • I've tried a lot.  St. Tropez is good but probably the most time-consuming for me.  I've tried Tan Towels which I like because they are fast and easy.  I also cut the towels in half and reapplied with the half I didn't use the following day.  This way I could cover streaks and make the tanner deeper if needed.  I have use a tanning towel by kate somerville which I liked.  She also has a good exfoliator product.

I have recently gotten into spray tanning.  I have a mystic tan membership where I can go as often as I want.  There are 2 kinds of machines at my salon- a 4-point and a 2-point.  The 2-point sprays you down on the front and then you turn around and it sprays your backside.   You are wet and somewhat dripping when you step out of the machine.  There are 3 levels which spray more or less on you (it is not different shades) and you can choose to have a bronzer in it or not.  The 4-point lets you pick the shade and add things into the solution so it is custom for you (like boosters or aromatherapy).  You have to rotate 4 different positions and it sprays you 4 times (vs. 2).  You are much dryer than the 2-point machine when you step out which is nice.  I prefer the 2-point because it lasts longer for me.
The salon provides barrior cream for hands, feet, elbows and knees (they said not to worry about the elbows and knees for the 4-point).  I bought a mystic tan hydrator cream to put on prior to tan.  The first time I put too much and the solution basically rubbed off when I dried off.

I tried airbush tanning by a person about a month ago.  I loved the color, and it showed immediately.  I noticed that it was more on my feet and cuticles more than the mystic (prob from not enough barrior cream).  I'll probably just stick to the mystic tanning since I have the membership now.

  • I find that the Jergen's tanning moisturizers smell bad which was a problem for me because I was putting in on everyday.

  • I've used Neutrogena MicroMist for a few years and it works well for me (and I use it fairly regularly).  Sometimes, you get a little more than you want to (mostly on your feet where it settles), but regular acetone nailpolish remover helps to take off extra bits.  For my actual wedding though, I'll pay to do the professional airbrushed spray tan just to be sure it turns out perfect.
