vendors?!

hey girls!

totally brand new to this but my best friend got a lot of feedback from all of you when she was planning hers and really appreciated it. SO, i'm looking at a few people and didn't know if any one had any thoughts?

Cincy DJ Entertainment - his name is Ryan and I met with him and really liked him a lot.
Michelle Marx - Marxey Makeup - haven't met with her yet but I've seen some pictures and her prices are reasonable.
Rachel Spears Photography - her pictures are so pretty and i've seen some write ups on her on facebook but just looking through here, i haven't seen anything about her.
The Madison - it's really pretty. a little out of our price range but maybe worth it?? i dunno!!

so overwhelmed. any help would be appreciated!

Welcome!  You've come to the right place! :)  Scroll through the pages of past posts on here and you'll find a lot of great info.  Especially read the "vendor reviews" that brides post after the wedding.  Not sure what your budget is for a reception venue or your guest count, but if you give us more details, we'd be happy to help you out with more options.  GL!

Welcome to the board! I used Michelle Marx for hair and makeup for my wedding, and she did a fantastic job on me, my bridesmaids and our moms. I also used her again for Rock the Dress photos and she did an amazing job with that as well. I would definitely recommend her.

i have heard a lot of great reviews about michelle marx through this site. She seems to come very recommended. I am using heidi mckenna who has also been terrific.

The madison is definately nice, but I woiuld do some good research on venues before you make any decisions. There are a ton of nice, yet unique and affordable place in the cincy/northern ky area.

Welcome to the boards, all of us are more than glad to help!

a piece of personal advice that i would like to share is that if you really like a vendor(like your dj) I would go with your gut. It doesn't hurt to get feedback from other brides on here, but if someone feels like they fit with you and your fiance very well, then go with them. These are the people YOU are going to have to deal with and rely on to make your dream happen, and you don't want to go with someone that you just have a bad feeling about.

Jeff and I went to meet with Tracy from Tres Belle cakes, and she put a bad taste in my mouth-no pun intended... she didn't make me feel like we were a priority and so I found someone else for our cupcakes and couldn't be happier-not to mention, the girl doing ours now is much cheaper.. had i gone with tres belle, I'm sure she would have delivered a great product, but just the way I felt when we met with her was enough for me to say "I don't wanna feel like this for the next year if we go with her".

same with a lot of officiants that I had emailed. None of them seemed to
"get" me or my quikiness. Until I finally found a pastor that may be even weirder than jeff and I so we both feel really good after meeting with him.

I'm not too keen on the Madison.  It looks exactly like what it used to be:  a furniture warehouse.  They do a beautiful reception but the facility itself is dark and borderline tacky.  The Grand, on the other hand, has a stunning ballroom w/ a wall of windows and a balcony.  I think their reception settings almost match the Madison's, but the facility itself is much, much more elegant.

I agree with PP. My friend had her reception at the Madison and room downstairs felt like a basement to me. The food was good though.

But I also agree with RCK4485. Take every review with a grain of salt. I met with a florist who had great reviews. However, the lack of communication drove me nuts. I had to chase down the quote and other paper work. It just me nervous that they would treat us the same way closer to the wedding and so we decided to go else where.

If you like the "look" of The Madison, but not the price, check out McHale's venues (that's who owns The Grand).  They have a bunch of different venues that will fit a wide range of budgets and headcounts.  We used them and just to give you an example, our open bar price was only $5.50/person.  Some places charge close to $20.  Here is their website:  www.kycater.com
