When and where to order invites??

We are getting married in June 2013 and my mom is on my case about picking out invitations..When should we have invitations ordered by? Also..can anyone recommend any good sites to order from?  Is it a pain to have to put them together, do you have to put them together? What about those places that do your invitations for you? Do they cost a fortune??

    I just ordered our invites for our April 20th wedding.  I ordered on Saturday, got the proof yesterday (3-4 days later) and then once I finalize they said it would be 2-3 weeks until they come in.  I ordered at The Papery in Denville but they have other locations.  They have your standard invitations - Vera Wang, Martha Stewart, Carlson Craft, etc.  I thought they were really reasonably priced.  And they do all of the calligraphy for you - outer and inner envelopes, etc. for a small charge.  So I'd say if you go that route, you don't need to order until late February.

    I am getting my invites from Invitations by Camille in Maywood, NJ.  We are getting married in April and she said that we should have them out by Valentine's Day.  Which means I need time to put them together and address them so we are ordering them within the week.  We are waiting for the next copy of our proof and then she will order a sample.  It takes alot of time to pick/design, proof, order, ship, put together and stuff in envelopes, address, stamp and send them out so the sooner the better!
