Roses

Hi Everyone,

I really like to have all  red roses for my bouquet, but was told that it would be a heavy bouquet and I should pick other flowers and colors.

My colors are red and black and the wedding is in Sept. I was also told this would be too "Christmasy" by a florist.

Any advice? Is this too Christmasy?

Thanks!

Re: Roses

  • I have made bouquets with 18 to24 roses which weren't any heavier than other flowers, and NO it will not look christmasy, after all a rose is a rose, is a rose.  Go with your original thought.  Bunches Bob

Who told you it would be too heavy?  Did they mean too heavy as in too much dark color or too heavy as in literally heavy?

If an all red rose bouquet is what you want then get it.  I actually think mixing different reds together would give it some dimension and uniqueness...talk with your florists about different reds that roses come in.

Finally an all red bouquet would not look "Christmasy"...please run away from this florist because they do not have any imagination whatsoever.

Oh, and my bouquet (pictured below) was extrememly heavy (weight wise) because the first thing I said to my florist (I worked for her for 8 years) was that I wanted a humungous bouquet LOL!  Yes it was heavy but I LOVED it...exactly what I wanted.  And you are right you will only be holding it for part of the ceremony (your MOH will hold it for a little while...I actually was able to get my sister back for making me hold her heavy bouquet plus mine when she got married LOL) and for a few pictures...it isn't like you will be carrying it around with you all day.

I say, listen to your heart and if this is what you want then go for it!

  • Have what you want.  I would seriously reconsider using the florist that told you it would look too Christmasy...they seem to have very little to no imagination or creativity.

As for it being heavy, my bouquet was HUGE...that is what I wanted...that was the first thing I told my florist..."I want a HUGE bouquet!" LOL......was mine heavy, yes...did I care, no.  I LOVED it!  I only held for it maybe an hour or so and then I was done...it actually made my arms look nice in the pictures because they were slightly flexed LOL!

  • Thanks everyone for the advice!

I think I got it all figured out! I guess they were more worried about having red, white and maybe greenery  with some leaves looking too Christmasy since my wedding is in Sept. I got many good ideas now from them after what I told them for sure what I wanted!

  • great! always stick with what you want and ask for opinions on what can be done to get it accomplished. We too are doing red roses. Formal, beautiful, and very elegant. We are adding sprigs of soft yellow honeysuckle vines to accent and some centerpieces will have other red flowers for filler to save on costs.

No one will think christmas when they see you coming down the aisle
