October 2012 Weddings

Tell me it's enough time....

I just booked my hair appt and trial. They have 2 other weddings that day and could get me and the ladies in at 11am. They said it will only take them an hour to do all us, which means we get out of there at 12pm. The wedding is at 2. Is that enough time? I mean really, the MUA says she can do faces in 10-15 min/face and it takes 40 seconds for the girls to put on their dresses. Am I rushing everything or do you think we'll be ok? The church is a 2 minute drive from the hotel.

Are you taking pics before?  If so (any at all, not even first look), that seems a little close to me.  You will need to eat something, get your mu done, get into the dress, pop some bubbly, then relax some before the ceremony, etc.  I guess if you can't get in earlier, you can make it work, but it seems a little tighter than I would want, personally.

  • Even if it takes double the time...you'd be out at 1.  Are the same people that are doing your hair doing your makeup as well.  If so, they could do your makeup while curls are setting, etc.  I think it'll be enough time, but it might be a bit rushed if something runs too far behind.  I think you'll be ok if you stick to your day of timeline.

  • As long as you're not doing pictures before you should be ok.

  • Agree with PPs, as long as your pics aren't happening then. And make sure you can eat while you're there!

  • That could be cutting it close depending on if they are running behind.  My hair dresser says it will take her an hour to do my hair and another hour for my makeup. We will be starting at 10 for a 4:30 wedding - the hair dresser said she would be done with everyone - 4 all together - at 2:30.
Will there be more than one person doing hair and make up?

Like PP said, if you are doing any pictures, other then getting ready pictures, you are going to be cutting it close.  If you are just needing to get dressed after you are all done, then it should be enough time, even if you have to eat something right before.  I think an hour is a good estimate if each of you are having your own dedicated stylist/makeup artist.

  • Thanks ladies. They have 5 stylists that will be working. The moms are basically a set and that leaves just me and the girls. No we aren't doing pictures of any kind before hand except for getting ready shots, which will be going on while we are getting dressed. We have one MUA for all of us, but like I said she said 10 min a face, which brings us to around 1:30pm. Still time to relax and eat I think. It's not ideal but the 10am appt was already booked. And I really like this salon, plus the bride is free!

  • 10 minutes a face is REALLY fast!  Is there any way you could get 1 more MUA?  I would really ask about the "10 minutes" when you have your trial.

My trial took 2.5 hours for both hair and makeup.  Granted we were figuring out things and it will go quicker on wedding day, but I can't imagine my MUA being done in 10 minutes.

  • I agree that 10 mins seems fast.  Is there any way your MUA could come to the salon to try to kill two birds with one stone.  If you feel comfortable with the timeline, though, I think you will be fine!

<div>I thought about that. But is it possible for someone who is getting their hair done to have their makeup done too? It just seems like such a clusterfu*k. And then I wouldn't have the pictures of makeup getting done, which really is my favourite part of wedding photos. I'm gonna talk to the MUA to see if she has an assistant. That would be ideal since it means we would be done by 1ish.</div>

  • Yes, it's possible to have your makeup done while your hair is being done.  The way my hair/makeup team does it is they curl your hair and pin it to set the curls, while the curls are setting they do your makeup, after your makeup is done they work on finishing your hair now that the curls are set.

Will your photographer come to the salon?  That might be a way to get more pics too.

  • This is why I love this salon. I called them back to cancel because I didn't think I would have enough time to get everyone ready. Two minutes later they called me back to say they will open an hour early and everyone is now coming in at 8am. It's super early and my mom's kind of annoyed but I am super grateful and now I know we won't be rushed.

AWESOME! It's much better to be ready early than be crazy stressed if it runs late.

Your mom will get over it.

  • I agree, you will probably be so much happier to have time to relax that day than to be squeezing that all in right before the ceremony.  I'm sure there will be a lot of things that come up the day of our wedding that we aren't thinking of.  Congrats!
