Centerpieces...all the same or different?

Are you using the same centerpiece for every table at the reception?  Or are you using two or three different centerpieces for the tables to "break up the room" (as my florist would say)?

Re: Centerpieces...all the same or different?

  • My DD sort of combined both.  Her CPs were hurricanes with candles and stones in them.  They were tied with a ribbon, placed on a mirror, and surrounded by silk flower petals.

But the tables alternated the colors.  Table #1:  ivory candle, green stones, green ribbon, lavendar petals.  Table #2:  ivory candle, lavender stones, lavender ribbon, green petals, and then alternating on each table.

  • Our CPs will all be fresh flowers, but they will be different flowers at every table in the same color scheme.

  • bb-I think that's a great idea!  So many pretty flowers.  It seems a shame to use just a couple of varieties.

  • All the same, no flowers.

  • We will have the same centerpieces, but each table will be a different theme with pics of my FI and I at different locations.

  • I am playing with the idea of 2 centerpieces both water based.

1 fish bowl with live gold fish
2 tall square vases with rocks and flowers

mini goldfish bowl votives on all tables

  • Thanks, Trix! :)
  • We had two different centerpieces.  Tables were on 2 different porches, with a couple bottles of wine on each table on one porch, and candy bowls on the other.  Both were used.

Lauren, fish don't work well for centerpieces.  What happens if one dies at the reception?  Who will take them home?  And more importantly, no one wants to watch fish poop while they eat.

Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad idea.

#1:  Living things should not be used as props.
#2:  What happens to the fish after the wedding?
#3:  What if one dies during the reception?
#4:  What is they poop during the reception?
#5:  Drunk or tipsy people have been known to pour alcohol into the fishbowl.
#6:  Drunk or tipsy people have been known to try to swallow the fish.
#7:  Drunk or tipsy (or cruel) people have been know to take the fish out of the bowl and let them flop around for entertainment.
    #8:  Did I mention that it's a bad idea?

  • We are doing two centerpieces. One is tall and somewhat expensive. The other is more moderately priced to fit our budget but still very pretty.
  • Thanks ladies for your info... we got it all undercontrol!

1 I have verified with most of the guests- They love it  ( No one cares about poop , everyone does it)

2 The fish come home with us - unless someone's kid grows attached and their parents ask to have some.

    3. I know my guests well enough to know how they behave around animals/fish while intoxicated

    4. I've spoken with several professional stores about this idea and what needs to be done to the bowl, water, and stones to make sure its healthy. I was also told by these professionals that a reception/party environment isnt in anyway harmful to a fish. If a fish dies... it is what it is... fish die all the time in home tanks even when being properly taken care of.

    Our bases are covered!

  • 1/3 tall 2/3 short   My florist recommended 3 different types.. but I didn't want to go smaller than the second option.  PIP
  • All of ours will be the same. We are doing lanterns and river rocks for sure and we are still up in the air about what else we are going to use.

  • Thanks ladies!  This has all been very helpful.  I couldn't decide if I wanted all the same things or not.  We are looking into doing something along the lines of link listed below, but with real flowers and in a different color.  I couldn't decide if I should do that for all the tables, or if I should use that for half of them, and some kind of flower arrangement for the others. I think I am going to go with half and half.

  • LOVE IT!
I think you could use different colored flowers on the tables to break it up and prob. wouldnt need to do 2 completely dif. kinds.
Depends on how many tables you are doing IMO $45 is a lot since I will have at least 30 tables.
  • Thanks Shan!  I actually found the Candelabras on a different site for $16 without the flowers.  My florist (who is actually my fiance's sister) will do the flower arrangements on them.  She is only charging us the cost of the flowers with no mark up and the labor is our wedding gift.  I agree...$45 is kind of expensive.  We will be having 20 tables.
  • We decided to do half tall and half lower... I like the way it breaks things up
