BC question - TMI?

So, figuring out my birth control, I will have my period on my wedding day. I want to change that, but I've never messed with my BC before. Can I just stop a week early one of these months and make it so I get it early? I know I'll have to make sure to use back-up protection, but does that actually work to make it come early?

Sorry - but I fiugred I'd ask you girls because you're always so helpful.

Thanks in advance

Re: BC question - TMI?

  • I don't know if you stop taking it you will start. I think if you just start taking your next pack without taking the last pills. The ones that are another color. I don't know what those are called, but don't take those and just start your next pack you should just skip your period. I could be completely wrong though. The best person to ask would be  your doctor.
  • If you're a Sunday starter, I know you can just start your next pack of pills on the Sunday of the week you'd ordinarily get your period. You'll essentially be going over a month without your period but it's ok. Also, b/c you're messing with the schedule a little bit you could get some spotting so just be aware of that...my advice is to switch the week now, months in advance, that way you KNOW you won't have your period or any unexpected spotting on your wedding day.
  • The last week of pills are called placebos. My periods are killer on my back so I only get my period 4 times a year. It's not a huge deal to "mess with your period" in your words. You can skip the last week and go straight into your next month of pills. That's what I would do. There is no way I would have my period on my wedding day if I could stop it. Uncomfortable and no sex? No thank you
  • You can skip your placebos one month (I'd recommend this month!) so that it falls a week earlier. Like PP said, you might get spotting, but better to get that now instead of on your wedding. I'm going to have to do the same thing, though I might have to bump it up 2 weeks. You shouldn't have to worry about extra protection, it's just skipping a period.

    I agree with this.

I've also stopped mid-pack before, gotten my period, and then continued with the rest of the pack. I've never had any problems.

  • I've skipped it by starting a new pack before taking the placebos.  Another thing that happens to me when I do this is the following month when I do get it I am much crampier than normal, my boobs hurt more and it's a bit heavier.  I would recommend doing it soon just in case you get those side effects.  The side effects aren't as bad as they sound....it's totaly worth it so that you don't have it for your wedding!

  • Thank you ladies for all your help.
I will skip it this coming month (because it's already too late to start my new pack as I always start the pack on Sundays).

And, yes, I wanted to change it now instead of waiting until the last month or two to switch it! Again, thanks for all the info.

  • I asked my doctor this same thing because I'm also supposed to get my period around the wedding day.  She said to just skip the placebos and take the new pack immediately.  Depending on what type of pills you have, you may want to just double check with your doctor.

This!!  And it could be more than just spotting, you might start your period way sooner and have it run through the next few weeks till you go back on the sugar pills and then start the next pack.

  • I was supoose to be on my cycle on my wedding day. I was told to skip the placebo pills and start a new pack. I skiped my cycled that month. But the next month it came far from my wedding date. So yes it works like a charm.

  • Man, I must be a lucky girl. My periods are amazing. I start on a Tuesday, end on a Thursday night. I'm on Levora (it's a generic for something?). I haven't thought about being on my period for my honeymoon.. but I guess if would definitely be something to plan out and look into! Who would want that?!?

  • I agree with PP to consult your doctor. I wouldn't quit midpack and pick it up I'd skip the placebos but consult your doctor as well
  • I agree with others, just skip the placebo week and start your next pack; the sooner the better.  I've done that before for vacations and stuff and didn't have any problems.

  • So I tell FI last night that I'm going to switch my week for BC so I'll be all set for our wedding. He says, "Oh great, so we'll be messed up for the next three months" as he's laughing. Oh, and yes, he said "We will" be messed up, because of course, it affects him as well. I just had to chuckle. He agrees though that I need to switch it so I have it the week before.
