NEED inexpensive reception venue!

I'm getting married April 20, 2013. There will be about 175 guest. Yikes. We want a DJ or be able to hire the band we love if we can afford them and serve appetizers. However, we want to provide our own beer and wine. I've searched everything from barns to hotels and am finding the prices to be outrageous! HELP! I'm also finding renting tables, chairs, linens to be expensive if they aren't included. I'm really getting frustrated and am about to nix the idea of having a reception at all.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh, and this is both of our second wedding. Neither one of us had the big ta-do the first time around and would love to have a great party for our celebration.
Thanks!
Kim

Re: NEED inexpensive reception venue!

  • It will probably be difficult to find a budget-friendly venue for that many people on a Saturday in April that isn't already booked.
What exactly is your budget? Do you want a DIY venue or an all-inclusive venue?

Would you be willing to move it to a Friday or Sunday to save money? You also might find a little bit more availability.

Some suggestions:  (not sure the capacity of a couple of these)

Addison Event Center (fee for outside catering)
    Lofty Spaces (tables/chairs included)
Event 1013 (Max capacity for sit-down 160-170 (which probably means 160 max); tables/chairs included)
Colleyville Center ($1800 for a Saturday; tables/chairs included)
Texas Discovery Gardens (outside ceremony space)
Occasions at Stone River (Royse City)
    Irving Arts Center

Remember that your venue, food and beverage is a hefty chunk of your costs.  There are lots of ways to save in other areas.  There are others in Ft. Worth if you are open to that.
  • I agree with PP, most venue are already booked for April dates. You might be able to put more towards the reception and have the celebration you want if you cut the guest list back a bit. Not sure if that is an option for you but less people requires a smaller venue and is less $$ in all areas. Have you thought about a backyard? Yours? A friend or family members? If that is an option I have some great vendor recommendations.  There have been a few girls on here that have had their reception on the rooftop of the Dallas location El fenix. Look into that, it's all incluseive it seems at a very resonable price and the view is pretty. Good luck hope this helps.
  • Addison Event Center can hold over 300 and allows you to bring in your own beer and wine. They do charge an additional $100 for each keg and case of wine you bring in, which covers the cost of the TABC bartender and bar set-ups (glass usage, garnishes, ice, mixers). Their food is amazing, so if you are going for heavy apps it can still be relatively inexpensive. I think for our cocktail hour we paid $5.95 per person and had 3 passed apps-Greek chicken kabobs, bacon wrapped shrimp, and crab cakes. Their buffet was $19.99 per person.
For what you're doing, I think Saturday afternoon would be your best bet, and the room rental charge would be cheaper ($1500 I think?). They have all of their prices on their website. All of the linens, chairs, and tables come with the room rental. The dance floor is stationary in the middle of the ballroom and is very large.

Can you send me some of those vendor recommendations?  I am also on a very tight budget, and may use a back yard for the reception.  Now, finding the tables, chairs, linens, and dance floor for a budget friendly price is very hard!
  • Try the Brookside Center in Hurst, TX its roughly about $600 and perfect for 175 guests. I'm sure you could still find something available!

Another option would be the YWCA...that one is a little more pricier and i'm not sure about availability.

    Hope that helps!
