Abbie - an AE means alter ego. Many people make up fake names and play around on the knot. Some are mean, some are dumb, some are funny, some are lame. It is really in the eye of the beholder.

No darling, you mixed that up.. You're smart enough to not have one.
I would have to be extremely bored to make up an AE! I keep busy enough usually on here with my regular ID. But if I did, I probably would admit it at some point.
I would never have a whiny, MUD AE. The AE I had was for pure entertainment- for everyone. I wanted people to have fun with her. I really hate when people make AE's as a front to be mean (ahem, BlameCanada).
I have a hard enough time finding time to log on as myself. If I had the time and smarts to make something fun, I'd probably last a day. I'm a horrible liar.
I am not creative enough to make up fake drama but I don't think I would admit it if I had one. I'd be too embarassed that I was that bored to create one.

I don't think having an AE is embarrassing. I know it takes time, which I don't have, so I can't do it. But, there are plenty of girls on here who are awesome who just have slow days at work, or are separated by miles from family and friends so it is a way to pass the time. I wouldn't be so quick to judge.
I wasn't judging, I was just saying that I would be embarassed for having one. But as I said, I'm not creative enough to think of fake drama (or rather the follow up comments that are the true gems of the post), so it's a nonissue.
I think they can be damn entertaining but just not something I would do or even think to do. It never even crossed my mind that some of the crazy posts were AEs until someone brought it up once.

No. However, you are pretty damn ignorant and insensitive for using the word "retarded" like that. Not to mention, you spelled it wrong.

No, but you might be for not even knowing how to spell 'retarded' correctly.
I created an alter ego on a free dating service once. My friend was really discouraged by the responses she was getting and told me some horror stories. I thought "it can't be THAT bad" So I created Magdalena. And her ad gave me hours of enjoyment when I took breaks from writing my senior seminar paper.

Dude I barely have time to keep up with THIS acct, never mind an AE.

That being said, I really have no effin time for one.

PrincessKittie was the best, though.
