Hi! I'm fairly new to The Knot, but does anyone know of a great (and beautiful) place to have a wedding in North Carolina? Preferably around the Raleigh/Durham or Greenville area. We live in Greenville but are willing to to travel to Raleigh and that surrounding area. I've looked online at a couple of places but none of them have really "hit the spot" yet! So anyone who can help us, thank you!

    It all depends on a couple of things really. . .

    What is 'pretty' for you (like what style are you going for)?
    What kind of budget are you wanting to stay around?
    How many people are you thinking you'll need to accomodate for?
    Are you wanting outdoor / indoor?

    Try and give us a little more information and we can give more recommendations :o)

    Hi Beka! Thank you for responding and for the congrats :)  We haven't set a budget yet. I'm not sure how smart this is, but we kind of wanted to find a venue and set our budget around that price. We're looking at around 300 guests (family,friends for me is about 120, the rest is all my fiance' family!) Formal & indoors. Let me know if you need more information. And thanks again!

    We're having 200+ in the Raleigh area and found that really limited our venue choices, especially since our budget was not unlimited.  The Pavilions at the Angus Barn was over our budget, but it's a great venue and books fast.  Other spaces that accommodate large weddings are Brier Creek, the History Museum downtown, the Capital City or the Cardinal Club downtown, Preston Country Club and the State Club on Centennial Campus.  I think the NCSU University Club does as well on Hillsborough Street and it's newly renovated.  I think the Cotton Room in City Market would accommodate a fairly large crowd, but maybe not 300.  It wasn't quite finished when we were booking last year.  We opted for the State Club based on price and the look of the venue.

    Bay 7 in Durham looks interesting--we kept our search in Raleigh.  I don't know it's accommodations.  Also, the Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill does a nice job and accommodates large crowds, but wouldn't work during football season.

    I'm sure other folks can think of more places and going to one of the wedding show sites might help you out as well.  Good luck.  Barbara

    My friend got married there last May (I was a BM). She had 300+ guests in attendance and everyone fit fine. I have NO idea about the cost of it though.
    It's in Garner and is attached to a jewlery store.

    Thanks so much ladies! We trying to stay under $20K (fiance' said under 15!) with a romantic, sweet feel to it. I looked at the Grand Ballroom - absolutely love it. I'm hoping to actually take a tour soon. I also looked at the Cardinal Club and Brier Creek. They are pretty as well. I kind of feel overwhelmed and even somewhat lost. Probably because we've only been engaged 3 weeks and I'm trying to get too many things done all at once! Thanks again :-)

    You're very smart to be looking early--we booked over a year in advance because of our May date.  If you want to watch your budget, afternoon or lunch/brunch receptions typically are more reasonably priced.  My best friend had an afternoon wedding--about 2pm. She served heavy hors d'oeuvres and the dance floor was packed the whole time.  Another friend had her wedding at Mordecai.  I think the vibe was different than what you're going for. She had an outdoor tent and served bbq--it was still pretty formal--just less formal food.  That was in the afternoon, too. Her band also had the dance floor packed.  Hope that's helpful.

    We looked at The Cardinal Club and really liked it, but it was too small for our 200ish person wedding.

    We ended up going with The State Club, and are really excited. FI and I are both alumni, but I know people who were Carolina fans or others that got married there. It's a really pretty venue and it's not too expensive when compared to others.

    You might also want to look into The Stockroom. It's Downtown and they recently had a bridal show at it.
