Harry Potter wedding!

Hey all!

So my FI and I both LOVE Harry Potter! We've been to the theme park and saw all of the movies together at midnight. In fact, one of the movies was the first movie we saw when we just started "hanging out" haha! So we wanted to incorporate the theme into our wedding! BUT, we wanted to do it tastefully and subtly. Our wedding colors are burgundy and gold (sort of like the Gryffindor colors) and I'm thinking of making myself a Harry Potter related garter (he doesn't know). We're also using lanters in our centerpieces, but we can't think of anything else that we could do! We don't want it to come off too much like a birthday party....so anyone have any ideas? The more the better! Smile

Re: Harry Potter wedding!

  • Maybe something to do with the cake?

I think if you do much more than that, it might come off tacky and childish.
  • Yeah, we want to keep it subtle and tasteful. Trying to stay away from tacky! haha. That's why I'm not so sure if we should do places from the books (like Hogwarts, the four houses, Diagon Alley, etc) instead of table numbers. Thoughts?

Also, if you go to the "Owlery" at the Harry Potter Theme Park, you can mail letters with a Hogsmeade postmark.  A friend of mine really wants to do that with her invites when she gets married.

Edit: MilkDuds beat me with one of my links.

You may already know about this, but I read in a magazine that you can have your invitations/save the dates postmarked at the Harry Potter theme park.

Whoops, PP beat me to it.

I wanted to get some owl stamps instead but I can't find any!! Maybe I'll just use a wax seal with our initials...</div>
  • There are some cute HP items on Etsy - mainly cake toppers and other decor pieces.

  • Congrats! I love this idea...so cute! How about doing "butter beer" as a drink at the bar?

Also, the themed table names are really cute.  My favorite movie was the Goblet of Fire so how about using that as decoration or specialty drink? Good luck with it and post ideas that you come up with!

  • You could have different owl images for table number (include small numbers for muggles).
  • I am looking for Harry Potter accessories for the photobooth~ Wands, lightening bolts, owls, and glasses. Keeping the silly in the booth.. lol
  • I'm jealous! I totally wanted to do this! But my FI said no way, haha. What about making it somewhat like the Yule Ball in the Goblet of Fire?

I, also, like the table names idea. That would be so cute. In the link that PP posted, I love the program as the Marauders Map! That's such a good idea!  What about doing some chocolate frogs as favors? I also liked the wands as favors, too!
  • Depending on where you are, there are some GREAT venues right on train lines. If you have the invites to the wedding like "School acceptance" letters, that could be fun. I've seen REALLY pretty train stations that have weddings in a section of them all the time. If you can find another nice venue on the train line to truss up like the Great Hall, getting everyone on the train with their "acceptance letter" to go to the "Great Hall" to eat could be done very classily with a heavy theme and STILL not be too childish.

Oh, and timeturner garter. There's nothing better than a garter to make him think about where his "second place I wanna be at the same time right now" is.

Table names! Name them after the different classes.

Edit: Leave out escort cards for people like Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Ginny Weasley, etc... but don't leave empty chairs, that's just odd.

Batman was supposed to be a symbol of hope and bring justice. Not spark violence.
  • Me and you have the same theme :)

Here are my ideas borrow any you like.

Sorting hat on the escort card table w/ tables named after houses

Signature drinks at bar- butter beer, polyjuice potion, felix felicis etc.

Candy buffet- think the trolly on the hogwarts express, chocolate frogs, bertty botts beans etc.

Our colors are purple silver and black I kept trying for green and siver but the FI would not let me use slytherin colors :(

Centerpieces manzanita branches with candles hanging from them.

    Card box- Bird Cage

Ring Bearer box- Hallowed out copy of HBP with the first page of the chapter the unbreakable vow as the bottom of the box. attatch ribbon and add rings.
