How to decorate ceremony site? PIP

My ceremony site is on a lawn with a lovely view behind me. It doesn't look lovely inthe foggy picture, but the site overlooks the Monterey Bay, I swear :)

My Mom, MOH, and BM's all think I need to have something around or over us for the ceremony. Like an arch, or flowers or pedastals, or something...

I'm on a budget, so this seems like a waste, and, at least to me, the ceremony is all about me and FI and our exchange of vows. We are having a very short ceremony so the area will only really be used for a short amount of time.

We're having the ceremony and reception at my bosses house, so there really isn't anything available from the venue. If i were to use anything it would have to be bought or rented.

What do you guys think, are they really necessary?

I know what they are talking about. My ceremony site is gorgeous on its own but it needs something to define the altar and the aisle, beside chairs facing forward.  My dad is building this to use:

I'll be using white roses & wisteria to decorate it.

Then we are using kissing balls on shepherds hooks from silk roses to line the aisle.  I made 12 of these:

This is the area looking off the Pavilion patio:

This pic was taken in Jan of this year, so the back ground will be much prettier now.

  • Thanks all.

I love your idea mrs.jesse. She already has a ton of potted plants, so I could always use them at my own house as well. Definitely not a waste.

  • I'm getting married on the beach and my florist suggested the same thing to me about putting a basket of flowers on each side of the "aisle" where we'll be standing.  Then my aunt suggested two potted palms instead.  Makes sense to have potted plants or trees to reuse and they're pretty.  I don't want to have an arch in fear of it blowing over.
  • I personally like a little more defiance than just an open field but it is your wedding.  Michael's and Hobby Lobby sell arches for like 20-30 bucks, then just decorate that with some fake flowers and tulling of your choice.  It will look beautiful!!
