Outdoor venue question

What are some of the most versatile outdoor venues that have a good alternate indoor space?

Re: Outdoor venue question

  • It's small (wouldn't recommend for more than 75-80 guests) but the Natchez Steamboat has an indoor area in case of rain, and the Creole Queen can accommodate larger weddings and I'm sure they have an indoor setup as well (we didn't look at it because it was out of our price range).  You might also want to look at City Park, New Orleans Museum of Art, or Audubon Nature Institute where you could have your ceremony outside but they have a couple of buildings where they could set you up in case of inclement weather.  The French Quarter hotels with a courtyard like the Royal Sonesta or Maison Dupuy could probably also accommodate an outdoor ceremony with an option move things inside.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • We had our outside wedding at The Benachi House, and they have an indoor option. Luckily, we didn't have to use it, but it's very pretty.
  • I got married at Cedar Grove Tchoupitoulas Plantation. They have a covered pavillion for an outdoor ceremony, which takes away the "what are we going to do if it rains" question. If it's hot, they have fans that they turn on, if it's cold they break out heaters. Luckily for us, neither were used, but it was good to know that we were covered in any event.

  • It's not in the city itself, but I'm having my wedding at CGT Plantation this November. Like PP said, it has a nice pavillion outdoors, but the inside is just as beautiful. Plus, their price is very reasonable and covers DJ, food, alcohol, linens, plus money for cakes.

  • The Elms Mansion has a beautiful garden and lots of space indoors (including a ballroom/bar area and two separate seating rooms). You could easily have the wedding ceremony and reception inside if the weather were not to cooperate. They only hold one event at a time so either way you have access to both spaces, we loved it and it makes for the most beautiful photos.
