Prestory: FI and I are waiting to close on our house and are currently living with his parents in the intermin. All our registries have the address for gifts as my parents house.

Question: just got home and found a box on the porch addressed to me c/o FI mom from BBB. FI parents are away so I left FMIL a message if she knows anything about it. I don't know what to do. Someone somehow got this address and shipped it here, but I don't know if I should open it or not, especially if FMIL doesn't know anything about it. WWYD?

I know normally you open any gifts received and send out TY right away, but this isn't where gifts are supposed to be shipped so I dunno what to do.

    Is there any possibility that FMIL bought something for you off the BBB registry and had it sent to herself instead of to your parents house?   If so, maybe she didn't know that your name would get printed on the label as well.

    If not, than it could be a gift from someone who knows your situation and really wanted you to have the gift now.  Or something like that. 

    If you can't get a response out of FMIL soon, I would go ahead and open it.  I has your name on it.

    Sounds like its probably FMIL's gift for you so I wouldn't open it until you've heard from her..she may be planning to take that to the shower and if you open it she'll have nothing to give you at the shower.

    She just called back. She said not to open it and that it's probably from one of her "stupid relatives" - her words not mine. Weirdness - her "stupid relative" spelt her name wrong. My "surprise shower" that I "don't know about" is next weekend. At least no matter what I can get the TY out within two weeks of it getting here.

    It might be from them.  Don't open it.  You can wait a couple of days.
