Silks vs Live

So I was in 3 different stores today trying to mock up silk arrangements thinking I could save money on flowers. All the silks looked crappy, stained or threadbare and some cost nearly as much as fresh flowers. Should I just use real flowers since I can't find decent fakes and the price different is minimal at best?

Suggestions welcome!

Yes.  If you purchase artificial flowers that look like real flowers then you'll probably spend more money than you would on fresh flowers.  I suggest booking appointments with florists and getting quotes.  The best way to save money, I've found, is to tell the florist what flowers you really like and then tell them that if they aren't in you budget to use flowers that will give you the same look for less.

certain silk flowers look good in pictures, but up close it can be obvious that they aren't real. i've seen some really nice ones at michael's, but depending on what you want, it can be cheaper just to go with live ones. have you checked michael's? they have some nice options

If you find the fakes look fake and are almost as pricey as the real thing, then you should go for the real ones.

depending on what you use, silks are pretty pricey.

my wedding is dead of winter, and I didn't want to risk the cold killing my arrangements by the time they're loaded onto the trucks, outta the trucks, and into the venue.

    so, i opted for fake.

i am really happy with them, especially because i saved myself about $1000.  if you look around long enough, you can usually find nicer silks.

i always sugget people try www.fioribelli.com

they are UH-MAZING.  and if you check out the thread below you can see my bouquet pics...which is 100% fake.

We consulted with a florist twice and also looked into ordering fresh flowers in bulk and doing it ourselves, but finally decided to order silk & real touch flowers online instead from wedideas.com. From the close-up photos they have, they look pretty good and from what I can tell they are higher quality fake flowers than what you find at Michael's. It actually IS saving us money as opposed to ordering real flowers, and hopefully I'll be able to resell them afterwards too.

To each her own, I guess!

I'm getting silk flowers to save money and because my mom is allergic to many flowers.  I got mine at afloral.com and they look really good and have the best prices I've found.
