Just Engaged and Proposals

How do I insure this thing?

How do I go about getting insurance in case I ever lose this ring?  I got it appraised, but I don't know what to do next.  It's "only" $5,000.  Does anybody know a good company that would insure it?

Re: How do I insure this thing?

  • You should probably have it added on as a rider with your renters or homeowners policy. That would be the least expensive and most effective way to do it.

Just call your insurance agent and talk to them about it. They will just need the appriasal info and probaby pictures of it. Depending on your insurance company, it should only add like $20 or so to your total premium.

  • Add it on as a driver?  Are you talking about auto insurance?

No, a rider to the homeowners or renters. A rider just means an add on to your current policy.

If you don't have  homeowners or renters (which you really really should have), you can get a policy from one of the many jewelry insurance companies out there.

  • We used Jewlers Mutual to insure ours.

  • I used Jeweler's Mutual also. They are online. Very easy to do.

  • My rings are insured through State Farm on thier own policy.  My apprasial was about the same as yours and it cost approx $45/year for full replacement value with appreciation.  Although my stone is a heirloom so I consider it irreplacable.  I have a cheap tacori ring that I wear when we travel and my actual ring gets locked in the safe.

  • I feel your pain! I called and talked with someone from jelwelers mutal, now I want to talk to my insurance compnay I get my renters insurance from. Depending on who has the better coverage, that's who I will go with. So I don't know if that helps, but I hope it does

  • I JUST got engaged too - haven't even gotten my ring appraised or insured. My dad is an insurance salesman, though not for property, but he says I can likely add it on to my auto insurance policy. Just a thought...I haven't looked into it yet; still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I'm ENGAGED!!! and can finally look on this website, guilt-free :-)
  • I was definitely wondering the same thing. My fiance got me a Veraggio engagement ring and I would just die if something happened to it! He said he needs to fill out the paperwork otherwise I am going to have to look into something else.
