How Much Candy Should We Buy (For Candy Buffet) 160 guest?

Hey guys!

How much candy should we buy for 160 guest for a candy buffet?  How many candy selections should I have?  How many bags of each candy should I buy?

Can you tell I am overwhelmed with this? ;)

    I've heard it suggested that you have 1/4 to 1/2 pound per person attending.  Some people will load up, and some won't want any. I'd go to the high end if you have kids attending, too. 

    I would also definitely have a variety.  Mix it up with some chocolate, some chewy, some hard candy, some fruity.  Some people coordinate everything to their wedding colors.  Some choose only their favorites.  Some go with an old-fashioned or classic candy theme.  You might browse some of the online sites like bulkcandystore.com or candywarehouse.com and just see what catches your eye.  Google bulk candy and you'll find lots of places to look.

    We are doing 10 different kinds- We each chose 5 of our favorites and added in the M&Ms in our colors (I went through candywarehouse.com)

    1/4- 1/2 per guest. So about 70 lbs total (wow that's a lot of candy). So, I would say the upwards you want to be at is 80 lbs - so about 8 lbs of each candy. I would get big jars and if you have a DOC they can refill the jars as needed.

    I got 70 lbs. for 150 people and had a boatload left over.  The mistake I made is my containers (while adequate) were too small in proportion to that much candy.  If I had done more like 1/4 lb pp, I would have been fine.  So if you go with more candy, make sure your containers are big enough so that it will all get taken.

    I think I did like 7-8 different kinds, I can't remember.  It's all in my bio.

    Locally, I found candy $7.99-11.99/lb.  Online it was closer to $5/lb. on average, at least in 2009.  I used metrocandy.com.
