Re: GEORGE STREET PHOTO RECS

  • I don't have any experience with them but I have a phone consult scheduled on 9/28/12.  If I remember, I'll update the thread afterwards.

  • I don't have any experience with them, because I got so annoyed at them harrassing me via phone and email after I contacted them.  I did pick up the phone once and it's a weird setup in my opinion.  You meet with a consultant who shows you books of photographers work and you pick a photographer based on the book.  You don't actually meet your photographer until your wedding day unless you get an engagement sesion scheduled with the photographer.  I really, really didn't like that I couldn't meet the photographer before I signed the contract.  I have seen too many times at weddings where people end up with overbearing, pushy photographers that end up annoying the couple and their guests and get in everyone's way.

I went with another photographer that I met with in person, because his works was great, his prices were great, he was very prepared, and he had a great personality.
  • I met with them, but in the end, I was fearful about not meeting the photographer.
  • I feel the same as the 2 previous posts. I met w/ the consultant after taking their "style quiz" and she showed me 3 slideshows from photographers that fit my criteria. Of the 3, there was only 1 I even remotely liked, but he was pretty good and they included a lot for the price. They would only give me the first name of the photographer and the only opportunity to meet the guy was if I paid like $400 more to have engagement pictures taken with him (these were not included in the package). I told her how strange that was, but she stated that's how they keep their prices so low - the photographers "aren't good at selling themselves" so they hire George Street to sell for them.  To me, it sounded like a ruse - like I'd pick "Mike" to be my photographer and then they'd send anyone they felt like and just tell the guy to answer to "Mike" all day.  Totally shady.
  • I had my George Street consultation last Friday and I really liked them.  My schedule is pretty funky right now, so I couldn't attend an in person session, but I did have a phone consultation and I met a representative at the Bridal Expo.  The albums I saw in person were beautiful and it was relief to see that it was quality work.  One the suggested photographers really stood out to me, but in the end we chose to go with an independent photographer whom we had met the day prior.

I am still interested in George Street for videography purposes.  I enjoy the contemporary and cinematic editing of the video footage.  We may go forward with them for that purpose.
