Mary's Designer Bridal - Annapolis MD

Hi Ladies,

Looking for insight and advice on Mary's  Bridal in Annapolis.

Does anyone have feedback on their experience there?

I am especially looking for input from anyone who has purchased a custom dress from Mary.

Thanks

Run away!!!!!!  Do NOT buy a dress from Mary's.  I repeat, do NOT buy a dress there.  Her custom dresses are really not custom.  She just rips off the designer label tag, sews on her own and says she designed and made the dress. I expect that several other ladies will chime here soon.  I've just heard so many horror stories.

I have also heard that the first thing she asks a bride is their budget and if it isn't $$$ then she treats you like crap and a waste of her time.

I really don't know how this lady is still in business to be honest with you.  There are a ton of GREAT dress shops out there, so don't settle for Mary's!

I completely agree with what the previous poster said - they will claim that dresses are one of a kind/high end, but really they just want to charge you 3-4 times the actual amount of the dress.  She's put in her own "designer" label instead of the actual one, and people have had many repeated issues with her.  I've never heard one positive thing about shopping there.

Ok, now I am officially freaked out.

I had hoped to hear things that were different from this but I am afraid that where there is smoke there is fire.

So here is my problem - I already bought the dress and of course she makes you pay for everything in full up front.  I am sure in my heart that the dress is a Maggie Sottero design (the one she told me that she didn't carry because it wasn't popular) - but I was hoping that the customization and high end fabric she promised was enough to make it worth while to go with her "custom" story.

How do I make sure that I am actually getting a dress made in the store or how do I get out of this mess.

While Mary is certifiably crazy, her dresses aren't bad.  I would NEVER recommend her, however, my sister had her dress made there and it was beautiful.  The whole experience with the fittings and all that, was a nightmare, but the dress came out great.  This was about 4 years ago, and things could have changed - but it seems to me that Mary will always be Mary.

Is there a way to ask for your money back?  Or wait until the first fitting and see where they are with it?  It's worth asking.

honey all I can say is you got swindled!!  It will not be made in her store. She buys them wholesale and takes the designers tags out and puts her own in. How she does this legally is beyond me, but since you already paid for it, you are pretty much stuck. She doesn't give money back. Good luck!

My bff bought her dress and we got our BM dresses from Mary. I don't think there is much that you can do now that you have purchased the dress. Just make sure you voice your opinion and DO NOT let Mary talk you down. She will. My friend loved her dress, but the BM dresses were totally not what she wanted. You need to be firm and stick to your guns. Good Luck!

I bought my dress from her.  Afterwards my sisters friend told her about what a nightmare this lady is.  She told me to come by myself for my first fitting and after I heard that I took my sister with me.  She actually wasn't the one who did it and everything went well.  Everyone I talked to that got there dress from her had problems, they said you have to stay on top of her, but in the end everyone loved their dress.  I just had my first fitting and I love my dress, I hope everything goes smoothly for the next.

People get lovely dresses from her all the time...they just pay 3 times more than they are worth and have to put up with the BSC snob that is Mary.

I tried on a Sottero & Midgley dress there which Mary tried to sell to me for $2,300.  Every other store in the area was selling it for $800-$900.

Good luck if you've already given her money.  I've heard plenty of people who ended up loving their dress, so don't worry too much about that end of it.  It just sucks to have wasted that money.

Don't do it, she's basically selling you a 1000.00 dress, ripping out the labelcharging you 4000.00, making whatever alterations you want but calls it designing your dream dress.  Any seamstress could take your 1000.00 dress, make all those alterations and it may be a few hundred, not 3000.00 more

Awful experience you want to avoid

I am a bit late chiming in on this but you might consider contacting the actual designer of the dress you think is being ripped off.  They often have policies with the stores they sell to about this kind of thing, and have the resources and time to investigate and go after her if they determine she is ripping off their dresses.
