Less than $5,000 minimum for a venue?

Hi Everyone,

I slacked on looking into venue ideas and am trying to get focused again.  My Fiance are looking to have a beach ceremony in South Beach (on the beach) and a budget-friendly reception (not being picky-- restaurant or a place close to the beach).  Does anyone know of any places that has less than $5,000 minimum or no minimum?  I'm guessing our best option would be a restaurant?  I'm new to all of this researching....We're thinking approximately 30 people.  I'll stick with DIY centerpieces... no flowers except my bouquet and the bridal party...no limo (want something close to the beach)...I read people gave good reviews on the cakes from Publix and that's fine with us.  I also read a tip of bringing an iPod rather than a DJ to cut costs.  Any ideas?

OH- and I forgot to add dates...we're debating between Memorial wknd. (I'm guessing 2013 may be more realistic than 2012) or early November 2012.  Since November is "off-season," that should help with lower prices too?  Also, how is the weather for an outdoor ceremony in November?  (I'm from JErsey :-)

    Thanks!

The Palms Hotel! It's my venue, it's on South Beach- you can get married on the beach or at their gazebo and have your reception on their terrace or in one of their ballrooms. I'm having a smaller wedding (50 people or so) and it was really hard to find a venue without a crazy minimum I had to meet, but The Palms worked with us. Their dinner prices are high, but they do run specials, or you can do a brunch or lunch wedding which is what I'm doing to keep costs down.

Actually November is a popular wedding time in south fl, off-season is more summertime since it's so hot. But the weather in Nov is nice, but can be a little chilly at night. Something to consider! HTH!

Oh awesome to hear!  The Palms is actually one that I svaed the pkg. info. for and have open on my comp. now.  I was thinking the brunch and lunch packages were pretty good deals.  The photos look really pretty.  Have you done any food tastings yet?
    Thanks for the info :-)

We are getting married on the beach by the rocks at 29th & Collins in March and are having the dinner on the rooftop terrace at OLA which is on 1745 James Ave. We are having about 30 people and OLA was rated the #1 restaurant in Miami for awhile. I think now it's #5 or something but the food is apparently amazing! We are having 3 or 4 courses with a top shelf open bar and it's right around $5000 with a cake rather than the dessert. The staff has been amazing and I'm really looking forward to it!

That sounds great too!  Would you be having a DJ as well or do they play music there?  I'm trying to think of as many cost-cutting ideas as possible.

You would need a dj I guess but this is our second marriage so we've opted not to have one. The event coordinator's name is Laylah and her email is laylah@olamiami.com if you want to email her.

I haven't had my tasting yet, but I've heard the food is really good. The whole hotel is really pretty, it has a very tropical casual-luxury feel, if that makes sense. it's not a typical south beach hotel, it feels more Carribean, which I think is cool.

The pictures look amazing at the Palms.  I was reading through the Brunch/Lunch packages again and saw the both only list the gazebo for the ceremony.  Are you having your ceremony on the beach or in the gazebo?

I'm doing the gazebo for the ceremony and then pictures on the beach after.
