Home buying- what are we going?!! NWR

Two weeks ago FI and I started looking at house and last night we actually put in an offer for one of the ones we fell in love with!!!  I have the biggest knot in my stomach and I'm so nervous!  Are we completely insane doing this so close to the wedding?  For all you other ladies purchasing homes around this time how are you handling the stress?

  • OMG, I'm really not dealing with the stress well, but my situation is (hopefully) very different than yours.  Our bank is being so stupid, and has moved our close date 3 times now.  It's not because we can't get financing either, because we've already been approved and everything.  They are just understaffaed, and can't get their own stuff together in time.

I really wish you luck, and that your bank doesn't cause you as many pimples as mine has....  I really hope that wedding stress the last two weeks doesn't cause this breakout too!

Alcohol.  Large quantities of alcohol.  J/K.  We're in the home buying process as well.  We had a contract on a short sale since July, but had to walk away from it.  So we're back to searching again.  This Saturday is the only day we have to go look at houses because next week FI will be OOT for job training and I have numberous wedding related appointments and things to do before I go back to work on the 27th.  I'm really hoping that we find something this weekend that is NOT a short sale and within our budget.
  • We just went through this process.  We started looking for houses in May because everyone was telling us that it would take 6-9 months to find something.  To our surprise, we made a bid on a house after the first week of looking and we won the bid.  It was a long process, but it was worth it in the end because now we have our own house to settle into after the wedding.

My advice would be to get all of your wedding stuff done now, before the loan stuff/escrow/inspections etc. start.  We spent many evenings going over paperwork with our realtor and mortgage broker.  And the moving part sucks, definitely.  We closed on our house/moved in late June and we are just about settled now.  During the process of closing and moving, I didn't get any wedding stuff done for about 3 months.

    Best of luck!

  • We purchased our house last October, but started the process in mid July.  Buying a house was pretty stressful for me, but I think it was mainly because they kept pushing it back on us too.  We were originally supposed to close at the beginning of September and they extended it twice by two weeks each time.  If you go in with the understanding that there are going to be bumps in the road, then maybe you'll be able to handle all of it better.

Best of luck!  It's also a very exciting process to go through!  Be sure to get an inspection NO MATTER WHAT!!

  • We close on our house the weekend before the wedding! I am pretty much taking it one day at a time because if I think it about it too much I want to vomit. Just focus on one thing at a time.

  • We originally were just going to rent but now we found a place we want to buy... not sure how it is going to go. Both of us are early 20s with little credit ... I am self employed and he's only been at his new job a few months. I am going to go to the bank and see about financing on Monday.

  • Yay congrats on the accepted offer...def take it one step at a time and realize that the bank will always want something from you up until the closing!

We bought a house in Feb of 2011 but started the process in Sept of 2010 and had to wait for it to be built and i felt like every 5 min the bank wanted something from us including hair samples, lol jk

But GL with everything! as stressful as it is, its also very exciting!
  • We went through this last October. We kind of jumped into it also, our lease was up, prices were down, we loved the house. And yes it stressed me out the whole time.

All I can tell you is it is incredibly stressful. It will probably get worse before it gets better but it is SO SO SO worth it.

Be up front with your loan officer. Make sure they are aware you're getting married. Any large sums of money leaving your account prior to closing can break the deal so let them know the situation. They'll be able to advise you as to the best way to handle everything.
