Shower Hostess Gift?

So my shower is next Sunday (Woo Hoo!) And my FI's aunt is throwing it with the help of her daughter, neice, my MOH (sister) and my mom. I know i've read that some brides get a nice thank you gift for the hostess, and I certainly want to do this! Do I get a gift for each person? If so, what is the proper amount to spend on something like this? Any gift suggestions?

Also, his aunt mentioned that his 2 other aunts had offered to help out by pooling some money to help pay for everything, do I also get them a gift, even if I'm not sure that they have put in money?

Gah, I'm starting to panic! LOL

TIA!

Re: Shower Hostess Gift?

  • I sent flowers to all shower hosts (I had 4 showers), as well as a TY note.

As far as gifts go - what can you afford? I knew that all my hosts would like/appreciate flowers. I was going to give a bottle of wine to one but decided against it. What would your hosts like? Yes, I would give a gift to those that helped. However, I would definitely find out if those 2 other aunts pitched in money. If you end up sending them a gift and they didn't help out, it may come off as weird/awkward to the other family members that didn't contribute.

  • DH and I ended up just doing hand written thank you notes (on different cards than the regular shower thank yous) for the people hosting our showers.  We also knew a lot of people contributed to our 2 showers.

Gift ideas that I think would be good are flowers, wine, candle or nice chocolates.  I've also heard of people getting bath product sets with a card saying "I hope your next shower is as good as mine". I think that is a very cute idea, but most bath sets I receive end up in my "Re-gift" or donate boxes.

  • The kind of gifts I like (and I really don't need anything) are:

    - gift cards for restaurants in the area. If you want to do this, you could buy them all the same restaurant's cards so they can go out together
    - scented candles (because I always like to light them, but you'd need to know their preferred scents)
    - chocolate ! (can never go wrong here unless you have someone with food or health issues)

I've started to give gifts of LED candles with nice candle holders, because they can be pricey, and some people (OK, my dad) have issues with real candles/flames. Most people like candle light, and this is a safe option.

I also purchased a nice wax warmer for my Mom, the wax is warmed by a small bulb, not fire, so they are safe. Got them at Walmart, they have various styled warmers, and they look like nice porcelain decor.

Our local Walmart had a very large selection of warmers and scented wax cubes. You can also use the wax sold at Yankee Candle.
  • I gave my shower hostess a nice thank you card, gift card to lowe's because she loves to garden, and some flowers.
  • A Diamond Candle! They're my go-to gift when I'm not sure. Who doesn't love a candle with a surprise ring worth up to $5000?? Most rings are only $10, but it's still a neat idea.
