I ordered my dress...but I'm having second thoughts...

I ordered my dress back in January and I really liked it...but I don't know if I loved it. I have since found a similar dress for a LOT cheaper and I am wondering if I should cancel the original dress and go with the cheaper one. I just feel bad spending so much money on something to wear for 6 hours. I don't really know what to do. Any thoughts would be helpful...
The original dress- lace all over with a sash and buttons down the back..
Here is a link to it and a photo of me in it...

  • Wow, I think the original dress you picked is beautiful, but you should LOVE the dress you pick.
  • I second that, I love the original dress, it looks beautiful on you. Don't feel like you need to cancel that one and get another one that's cheaper, unless you feel like that's something that you need to do for your budget. Im sure you will look beautiful either way! Good luck and congrats! Your wedding is just 2 days before my birthday... haha! September is a good month!Wink

  • First offf... I love your dress on you its soo chick, elegant and fits you great! love it. Second i really do feel that its only natural to second guess things. After all its the most important garment youlll wear in your life! So of course alot of thought goes into it. I say, since you already went ahead and ordered it than it must be the one. At least thats how I am putting my decision into perspective. And by the way, didnt anyone tell you to STOP looking after you found your dress? :)

  • Have you tried on the second dress?  How much of a deposit would you lose if you cancel the first dress?  It's kind of hard to compare the two since you only have the one picture with you in a dress, but the first dress looks lovely on you.

And don't stress about loving your dress.  There are plenty of brides who don't get all emotional and excited when they find "the one."  Sometimes it's just a logical choice, because it's the one for the best price that looks the best on you.
  • Have you tried on the DB dress?  I tried that one on, and the fit on me was less of a trumpet than your original dress.  The fabric also has a very casual feel to it.  Does one fit the feel of your wedding more than the other?

I think you should follow your heart and not settle because of price.  If you really like the cheaper dress just as much as the dress you ordered, then maybe you might want to swap.  That money could then be put into into other things for the wedding- maybe some fun splurges to make the day even more special for you and your fiancee.  Would you lose a large deposit on the first dress?

Hope that helps!  The most important thing is for you to feel that you made the right decision for you!

  • I think that the first one looks even BETTER on you than on the model.
I feel that it's important to "love" your dress. If you can afford it, I think you should spend the money on the one you really want, instead of one that is a lower price...just because it's a lower price.
I don't know if this is really what you're asking: but I LOVE the first one on you.
My opinion is that you shouldn't get the second one just because it's similar, and just because it's less expensive.

  • Thanks all for the advice...I would lose the deposit I put down on the first dress which was 50% or $850 plus I would have to buy the new one which is about $500 so I would only be saving about $350...I guess I'm just second guessing the price and the fact that I didn't love it...But I don't know if I'm the type that could ever love a dress...

  • I'd keep the original dress.  Personally, I like your first choice much more than the second one.

Also, alterations don't take months and months.  My alterations (bust, bustle, crinoline addition, and cups sewed in) took one week.

Not everyone gets the "ohmygod, this is my dress" moment.  I think you should wear a dress you feel beautifiul in.  You look awesome on the first one.  Go with it and stop looking at other dresses!! :-)
