Does this escort card idea seem too complicated?

Hi everyone,

I'm having a casual, offbeat wedding and I have an escort card idea that I like but want to get an opinion on it.

We are having a pretty small wedding and I was thinking of getting simple, small glass vases and putting one flower in each vase. there would be a thin piece of paper sort of displayed in it (not in the water obviously sort of curled near the top...if you can visualize that?) The paper would display the guest's name. The vases would be arranged in rows according to table number.

Basically, the guests finds their vase and sees their table number. They bring the vase to the table and put it in the center and all the small vases together act as the centerpiece.

I'm thinking of having a sign with simple instructions at the table.

So, is this really confusing or pretty straight-forward?

Thank you :)

  • I would get it, but I don't know if other people would know to take it to the table. I think it's a great idea, but maybe a sign wouldn't hurt? Otherwise, if you have someone greeting your guests, you could just have her/him explain it to them?

  • I think it sounds very cute. My only personal issue with it, if it were my wedding, would be that the tables would not have their centerpieces before everyone sat down, and I want photographs of my table settings and other decorations before the guests arrive. But that's just me! If you don't mind that, it's a great way to triple-purpose the vases (escort cards, centerpiece, and favors I'm assuming), which is awesome!

I don't think guests will be too confused by it if you have a sign explaining. They're sure to think it's clever.

Just my 2 cents, I would make them the favors as well (which you may have already planned) If I was at a wedding and there was a vase with a flower and my name, I would assume I could keep it.
  • Why not put the paper with their names on it attached to a ribbon on the outside of the glass? Water wouldn't be an issue and if you are having fresh flowers, they can be placed in quickly the day of instead of trying to make sure that you don't get the paper wet. Trust me, you'll have enough to do that day.

Also, I suggest arranging by name instead of table number- people won't be able to find it quickly if you do by table number (since that's what the escort card is supposed to tell you) and you'll end up with a cluster around the table, especially since they'll be trying to figure out what to do to begin with since it's a little unconventional.

[QUOTE]I would encourage you to try this at another party before committing to it as an idea for your wedding. Host a backyard BBQ or if you're having a wedding shower ask the host to incorporate it. The reason I encourage a trial run is that I had a very similar idea for an event I hosted, and the results were not what I expected. At all. I ended up with plenty of items left on the original table, people carrying them around, people putting them near their plate to mark "their place". It looked pretty messy and disorganized. If you give it a trial run you can both see how it turns out, and have the luxury of people at the wedding knowing what the end result should be. They can clue in people who miss the memo.

After reading your post, I realized OP could maybe place dollies on the table to indicate that is where the guest should place them. CLICK HERE
