In memory ideas

So this past year has been pretty rough on my FI's family. There has been a few deaths in the family and a couple were unexpected. I wanted to have a little poem or something displayed to honor those who could not be there in person but I know are there in spirit. I cant seem to find one I like... Do any of you ladies have any ideas??? TIA

Re: In memory ideas

  • I am having a memorial bouquet and a poem right next to it in a frame saying.

"We pause to reflect on those who have shaped our character,
Molded our spirits and touched our hearts.
May this bouquet be a reminder of the memories we shared,
A representation of the everlasting impact you have made upon our lives."

Then underneath that we will put their names.

  • Right after I posted this I found this poem that I wanted to share. There are other types of poems on this site that may be useful for others as well.   http://ctknottiesnesties.weebly.com/wedding-related-poems.html

    Memory Poem

Though your smile is gone forever,
And your hands we cannot touch,
Still we have so many memories,
Of the ones we loved so much
    Your memory is our keepsake,
    With which we'll never part,
God has you in his keeping,
We have you in our hearts

    Although we cannot see you
We know that you are here
    Smiling down, watching over us
    As we say "I do"
    Forever in our hearts
    Forever in our lives
And so we say our vows
    In loving memory of you

  • We are having a memorial candle and a vase with a white rose for each person who has passed away. We will put it on the alter. Then in the program it will say this: "The roses and candle that is lit at the the alter are for those who could not be here but are with us today in our hearts.
We keep in loving memory: (and then list everyone's name)

  • We're just going to have a simple candle and either flower petals or leaves around it.

    The saying on it is:

    For those we have loved
    And lost along the way
    A flame to remember them
    Burns here today

We're not adding any names or dates.  I may add "Always with us, forever in our hearts."

<div>I love this idea! Did you make this poem up yourself? I might use it but I want to make sure I'm not stealing anything! :)</div>

  • Ditto the above--did you write that yourself?  I don't want to steal anything either but that is my favorite version of a memory poem I have read so far!
  • Same! This is a really nice idea.

Our reception stite has a little room that you go through to enter into the main room, where we'll have our guest book, name cards, etc. There are a few chairs and several empty bookshelves to decorate. We're going to frame several wedding photos from our families, so we might incorporate some kind of "memorial" like this with the photos.
  • I'm not doing a poem or anything. I thought about explaining my memorial with a sign but was advised not to by some of you. In my bouquet there will be 5 roses in representation of all the people in my life who should be present but have gone before us. One RED for my Dad. Red roses were his fav flower. And 4 light pink for my Dad's dad and my Mom's mom, dad and baby sister.
