Groom's Cake

For those of you getting one, how many people is your groom's cake serving?

I'm suprising FI with a grooms cake at the RD. It will serve 40.

Whats the big deal with a grooms cake?  I never heard of it until I started on here.

Ours serves 35-40, which is less than half the number of guests we expect.

It's mostly a Southern tradition.  I didn't know they weren't at every wedding until I moved to Pennsylvania.

I don't know about it being just a southern thing.  II've been to weddings before in Pittsburgh with groom's cakes.  I personally don't think we will be doing one... although I have a little over 10 months to decide that.

Our groom's cake isn't "cake".  Our venue's specialty is their chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick.  They are stacking them in a tower (or pyramid) so guests can just walk by and take one.  Since it's a novelty we are going to have at least 100 (wedding is 170ppl).  We are really excited about it...it's unique and they taste amazing!

I got one for the rd.  No idea how many it serves, got it more for the novelty.

It is a cheeseburger and fries cake.

I got FI a ps3 cakelet.  Its small, they say 2-3 people but I heard they serve several more.  We are having a cupcake tower with a 6inch round cake on top.  So I wasn't worried about it being small.  We are having a small wedding so I didn't want a huge one.

I would like to get my fiance one, but i was thinking keeping it small and he can share it with the groomsmen.. we are most likely having a small wedding cake and handing out monogram cupcakes to our guests... its an outdoor wedding with around 200 people  for our BBQ reception...i dont' think anyone will care much
