UGH!!

ok so my FMIL has offered to make our 5 tier cake...problem is she hasnt made a cake since her own wedding and its never been one of that size. My fiance has already gotten angry at me because he wants her to make it and i want a baker to make it. She doesnt have any time to practice with me but she still insists on making it. what would u do!?

    Okay, you're going to have to live with the MIL for the rest of your life, so I think this is one of those moments when you need to know when to pick your battles. If both her and your FI want her to do it then I say let her do it and don't worry if it's a total disaster. It won't reflect badly on you at all.

    If you're really concerned, offer a back up dessert at the wedding like petit fours.

    Hmm. How important is the cake to you? Choose your battles wisely, especially since this woman will now be a permanent part of your life. Most people say they don't care about the cake at all but only have it for tradition's sake. Let her make the cake and if it turns out badly, it only reflects that way on her, not you. Either way, you and your FH need to sit down and have a mature conversation and learn how to compromise, since him getting mad at you for this situation as you describe is not mature. Things that are much bigger will come up in your marriage and you will have to figure them out on your own and you won't see eye to eye alot of the time. But if he blames you as he is doing now, then your marriage will be headed for the rocks if you cannot learn how to compromise like adults. In comparison, a cake is nothing. Just have a backup dessert that FMIL knows nothing about.

    what if you ask her for cupcakes instead of a cake? Cupcakes are hard to mess up and they are very common for weddings now!
