alterations... suggestions?

Where did you get your dress altered at?
how much was it? did they listen to you well and get it back to you in plenty of time?

i'm getting married in Sept. and don't want to get my dress altered at DB...
$50+ each for a hem and bustle? no thank you. and now i need the bust taken in too.

I'm in woodstock, but i can go to marietta, kennesaw, canton, roswell, etc.
i'd just rather not go toooo far

I went to Dora Baker - she did a great job and will press it for you when she's done.  She did hem, bustle, added boning, added cups, and took the whole dress in on the sides for $155.   She's in Lawrenceville.

I have also heard great things about Dora Baker! Definitely going to give her a call myself...

Speaking of alterations, what is the proper time line? I know about the 6, 4, and 2 week out fittings, but when should I go in for an initial appointment and set up having a hem and taking in done?  My wedding is not for a year, but I already have my dress (my aunt's). I don't know what an average turn around time is for a wedding dress, as I would think it'd depend on the dress and her schedule. Would the end of this year/beginning of next year be enough time?

My wedding is July 15 and Dora wanted to do my first appointment April 23rd. That's my birthday so I asked if we could move it up a week. I have no plans to fluctuate in weight at all (I'm not dieting or anything). So I plan to have my dress complete 1 mo in advance so that's one less thing to worry about as the wedding gets closer. It also will help if something else needs to be done to the dress.
I would definitely give her 2 month if you have the option. You just call her for an appointment and she have me a general quote over the phone.
