First Gift

Okay, so I got my first check in the mail yesterday from a guest who won't be able to make it to the wedding! I was so excited!

My question is, when I start doing thank you notes, I know you're supposed to be specific and personal, but what do you write when they send you money?

    I would say something like "thank you for the generous gift that we will be putting towards new home, honeymoon, home improvments, etc. "

    i havent gotten any checks yet, but I have been wondering.....is it appropriate to cash/deposit the check when you recieve it, or do you wait until after the wedding?

    I believe you should deposit it right away but don't spend it until after the wedding. I could be wrong, but if I wrote someone a check I would want it to come out right away because that is when I would have it calculated into my budget, if it wasn't cashed right away I might also worry that it got lost in the mail or something.

    1.) Deposit the check but don't spend it :)

    I got a gift of cash from FI's Great Grandma and Grandma, the thank you I wrote said something like this:

    "Grandma and Great Grandma,
    Thank you for the lovely card and gift of money.  We will be using the gift to help pay for our day of swimming with dolphins in Florida.  We are so excited to do this as it is a once in a lifetime experience for us.  Thank you again
