NWR vent - need positive vibes

So, I have an interview for a teaching position tomorrow. This will be my third since I graduated in May. My first two interviews were so-so; I could have prepared myself better, but I took it as good experience if nothing else. However, my confidence is definitely down. I am questioning my teaching ability and whether or not I am/will be a good teacher even though throughout my student teaching I was told I was a great teacher. But I keep thinking back to those first two interviews and some of the tough questions I tripped up on and feeling bummed and inadequate. Not to mention two of my close friends from school have already landed jobs (really early to get hired - some people don't get jobs until the week before school). I am currently at work (I work PT at a doctor's office) trying to prepare for tomorrow. Sorry to be so whiny! Please send some positive vibes!

Cliff's notes: Feeling bummed and low confidence in ability to teach. Nervous about interview tomorrow.

  • Positive vibes your way!! I remember when FI was interviewing for teaching positions, he got really nervous before them, and his interviews seemed tough. Just relax and be confident and you'll do great! The simple fact that you're this nervous about it and want it that bad already puts your ahead of several other aspiring teachers FI met in school.

  • Positive vibes your way, I'm sure you'll do great. I agree with Laurel that the fact that you're nervous is good because you're probably going to prepare for it better than other candidates. Good luck!

  • I totally understand the frustration and lack of confidence with the job thing.
Look at this way- they like you enough to give you the interview! Thats a great step, especially in the world of teaching.
Think back about why you want to be a teacher? If you still believe in any of those reasons, find confidence in them.
And Good luck tomorrow. You will do wonderfully!

  • Sending positive thoughts to you!  Remember, interviewers actually like it when you pause before you answer because it shows you're reflective.  Many people think that if they don't have an immediate answer then it looks like they don't know what they're doing.

If you're still on the job hunt after your interview I strongly recommend this book:  Inside Secrets of Finding a Teaching Job, by Jack Warner and Clyde Bryan.  It's an easy read and it gave me a lot to think about before my first interviews.

    Best of luck tomorrow!
  • Thank you ladies so much for your advice and support :-)

  • GOOD LUCK!!!!! You'll do great!! Don't focus on the negatives...focus on the positives and turn the negatives into positives!!! =)
  • Good luck! It helped me to read over my resume and remind myself why I'm awesome. Okay I'm not that cocky about my teaching, but my cooperating teacher told me that being confident was important for a new grad so I tried to psych myself up.  Think back about all the things students said about you and just know that you deserve the position!
