Need venue help please! Places that don't require a certain caterer

Hi!  I'm planning my wedding for June 2012 and I'm having a hard time finding a nice venue in the Pittsburgh area that allows for your own caterer.  I found a caterer, Our Little Secret, in West Mifflin that has an unbelievable menu selection, prices waaayyyy lower than any other caterers I've seen (full buffet with 4 entree choices for $13/person!), and the food is delicious.  So I've pretty much got my mind set on using them, but I can't find a location.  I was looking at the Edgewood Club, but I can't get a response as to whether or not I can use this caterer.  Also looked at Armstrong Farms, Lingrow Farms, and Shady Elms farms, but those are all way above my price range (rental fee is $8000 just for the venue!).  We're on a tight budget, so I'm looking for a location where the rental fees would be $2500 or less.  Can anyone help??  I'm flexible on the location... either in the city or anywhere within a 45 minute drive of the city.  Thanks so much!  :-)

These venues are rare, I'll tell you that. There is a list on the PGH Knottie website with a list of venues that allow outside catering, it can be found here (clicky). You might also look at public parks, like Schenley or South Park or North Park.

What about Riverside Landing or the Greek Orthodox Hall? Both are in Oakmont. RIverside Landing is super cute. They may give you a list of "preferred caterers" but I'm not sure.

The only item I will not compromise on...my bouquet of all purple tulips wrapped in a swatch from my Mom's wedding dress.

They require you to use specific caterers - they are my venue <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />.  Most places I looked at required you to use their caterer or a list of preferred vendors, except for a couple of firehalls and a VFW post.  I would recommend you continue to look at parks (Avonworth?) and firehalls.

Both the Greek Orthodox Hall and and Riverside Landing are on the website as venues that allow outside catering. Is this no longer the case? If it is not, please let me know  so I can take them off.

    Thanks!

Both my ceremony and reception venue allow outside caterers! Hartwood Acres Mansion is my ceremony venue (which since you're wedding is June you could have it outside - you would need to rent tables/chairs for outside for which I recommend Classic Tent Rental in Freeport, or if you're having a small wedding inside the mansion may work for you because I think 50-60ish is there seated limit inside), and my reception venue is The Mattress Factory (you can have any caterer you want, but for a 3 hour reception its 3200, plus if you're having a sit down dinner you're need to rent tables/chairs and they only have chairs that seat 60ish).

Thanks!  It looks like Riverside does only give you a choice of two caterers.  I'm not sure about the Greek Orthodox Hall, I couldn't find a website for it.  When I search online, it makes it look like the Greek Orthodox and Riverside Landing are the same thing?
I saw Laube Hall on the list, and that place looks great!  I called and left a message for them, so hopefully they'll get back to me soon!  Also still waiting on Edgewood... their location is beautiful and would be absolutely perfect, but they aren't very helpful at all so far.   Hopefully one of these two places will end up working out! :-)

Did you talk to your caterer?  They probably have a list of halls they have previously catered and that might help if you get stuck and really can't find a place.  I don't know how far from West Mifflin they've catered, though.

Finally got a response from Edgewood.  They gave a very firm, very rude "no" to outside caterers.  Wouldn't recommend them at all.. they ignored my phone calls and emails for 2 weeks, then the guy was a jerk on the phone.

I looked at the Mattress Factory... that place looked great, but the $3200 rental fee seems a little out of our budget.   I also looked at Hartwood Acres for the reception, but they close the park at 7pm, so it'd have to be an afternoon reception and I'm not crazy about that idea.

I checked with my caterer, but she only recommended fire halls and I wanted to find something that looks just a little nicer than a fire hall.

I might go with Laube Hall though.  She seemed really nice on the phone, and their rental fee is only $1700.  I'm just not sure of the cost of renting linens and china.  Does anyone have an estimate of how much it costs per person to rent linens, china, glassware, silverware, etc.?  I'll also need to provide my own alcohol.  I've read online that the average cost only ends up being $3 per person when you provide the alcohol... Does anyone have any experience with that?  Does that estimate seem right?

Thanks for all of the help! :-)

Another place I'm going to look into because I didn't realize how far away from teh city Laube Hall is... Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall.  They have a reception hall there that appears very inexpensive to rent and I'm sure they would allow outside caterers.  It looks nice I think, but it's hard to tell because there's only one small picture on their website.  Has anyone had a wedding there?
