Jazz Brunch Reception in the Quarter

Hi. I am in the process of planning my New Orleans wedding. I really want to keep my reception under $10,000, and am finding this is going to be very difficult for what we want (75-100 guests, French Quarter).

The two possibilities that relatives keep suggesting are
1) A Saturday morning wedding with a jazz brunch reception in the Quarter
2) A Friday evening wedding

At first, I was completely opposed to the jazz brunch idea, but I'm starting to think it may be the only way that what we want is possible. And, I do like the idea of carrying on the festivities all day (going out that night, after the reception, as a newly married couple with our closest family and friends, while still getting the jazz brunch after the wedding that morning!) And, with that option, our guests would not necessarily have to take Friday off of work to attend.

Where I live, morning weddings are almost unheard of, but my mother (who lived in New Orleans for several years as a newlywed) says that they are more common there. I don't know if this is true or not.

Any suggestions as to possible venues would be appreciated. Also, please vote in the poll. Which do you think is more preferable for guests and budget-wise: Friday evening or Saturday morning.

Thanks!

When we first started planning in June, our goal was to keep food and beverage at 10K for 75-90 guests.  We're having a Saturday night wedding and have found it's doable with some effort and menu changes.  So since I'm also partial to an evening wedding myself, I vote for Friday Smile, although, like you said, for OOT guests (all our guests will be OOT) Saturday night is easier, and I don't think there's much difference in pricing between Friday and Saturday nights.

Let us know what you decide.

I found that a lot of places with a food/bev minimum required the same amount for Friday and Saturday nights, so I went with Saturday evening when I realized that all the vendors would be charging the same. I am having my reception at the Wax museum (Musee Conti) and my food & bev cost should come in close to your budget (that's with a full open bar...you could always modify or eliminate that). They also permit outside catering, so there is a lot of cost flexibility there. I'm with bezlu in saying that budget is completely doable with some effort. Just start scouring this board for ideas and suggestions!!

Btw there is no food/bev minimum at the Wax. Only a rental fee, so after that cost control is totally in your hands. That's one of the main reasons I chose it.

Consider looking at The Chicory.  It's absolutely beautiful and very new orleans.  I was turned off by it at first because it was so pricey but there's a new gal there, Michele, who was very flexible with my budget and wnated my business.  I was looking at Sunday evening and she gave me an awesome menu with open bar for 3 hours for $5,500 for 60 people.

And I wouldn't worry about whether guests have to leave work early or take a day off to attend your wedding.  People will always want to make a weekend out of going to a wedding in NOLA, so they will take the time off.  It took me awhile to realize I couldn't accomodate ALL of my guests and those who can make it will be there.  It's about you and your fiancee and what you all want.  Best wishes!!

You might also want to check out the federal ballroom.  You have to pay a rental fee as well, but the menus started at $40/pp including open bar and TWO wedding cakes (brides and groom's).
