Workout Accountability: Friday!

Good lord this week has dragged.  I'm so, so glad to have Monday off.

Last night I ran 4.5 miles.  It was great except for the last like 15ish minutes when a dude hopped on the treadmill next to me reeking like he just swam in a pool of hollister cologne.

Tonight I'm lifting and doing the elliptical.  I may do a short jog after if I still have energy.

Any fun weekend plans?  Mine mostly consist of serious relaxation time and maybe some recipe experimentation.

Re: Workout Accountability: Friday!

  • So I haven't posted all week, and my apologies.

Tuesday I did spin class with a new instructor.  I couldn't believe that I was actually BORED in class.  I've never been bored in class.  Needless to say, I"ll be back to Body works on Tuesdays.

Thursday I did Boxing Club Circuit, a great workout!  I brought my father and he was impressed haha.

Today, I'm doing an hour at the gym this morning.  Ellyptical, running and bike, 20 minutes each.  Weekend, I'll be working out with the FI and getting him on track. =)

We'll also be sending out our STDs this weekend =)
  • I did the bike for 25 minutes.  It made me realize how much I miss running :(  I will hopefully do the elliptical tonight and by Monday be back to running.

It's my mom's 50th this weekend so we will be celebrating that!  I'm going to be careful and watch what I eat as best as I can.  Especially since this new BC has made people gain weight.  I think if I have a strict handle on things I should be OK.
  • Pburke: I've always wanted to try an actual boxing circuit class.  I've only ever done kickboxing classes.

lbarr: Happy birthday to your mom!

I might go to the gym today. If I do, I'll just do a bit of cardio and weight training. I didn't do anything yesterday so I really should go today.

I've been on the search for gray crop workout pants. So, I might go to Old Navy and Target tonight to see what they've got.

lbarr- Happy B-day to your mom!

I don't have any fun plans for the weekend. I'm working a school dance on Saturday night- it's neon themed. Haha. Other than that, I'll just be getting some stuff done around the house.

  • It was snowing AND raining last night so I stayed inside and did the Plyometrics workout from P90X. I am only a little sore today- a huge step up from the last time I did it a few weeks ago!

This afternoon..... I'll have to see, maybe the elliptical maybe a run. Silly central New York weather! Makes it very hard to plan anything!
  • I unexpectedly found out about 3 jobs that just opened where I work, so I ended up spending 2-3 hours re-doing my resume and writing cover letters last night to apply for these better jobs...ended up not having time to hop on the bike, which is frustrating because I'm travelling this weekend and won't have much time to workout.

I'm really gonna need to push for getting home earlier on Sunday so I have time to get a good workout in!

  • I did an hour of cardio at the gym this morning. A mix of elliptical and intervals on the treadmill. I haven't lost any weight or inches in 2 weeks so I'm pretty frustrated. I have lost 16 lbs so far with approx. 12 more to go, so I think I have hit the dreaded weight loss plateau. I stick to 1200 calories and more on days I work out. Blegh I'm so frustrated. I've been hesitant to try and involve weights into my work out but looks like I will have to, to change it up. Frustrated to the max.

Jude - It is pretty much the worst thing ever when you are working your butt off and breathing hard and you get a giant wiff of cologne/perfume!! It makes me sick! I so cannot work out like that. I mean really - who needs to put that on for the gym.

lbarr - Happy bday to your momma!!

  • Jude- sorry about Mr.Hollister- that would piss me off Yell
lbarr- happy b-day to your mom from all of us Laughing

...as for my workout yesterday- I did 9 miles after work.  OMG I was tired when I got home, but this week and next week are my last high mileage weeks.  I.CAN.DO.THIS!!!!!  (well, I hope so anyway!)

    Have a wonderful weekend ladies!
  • maribeth: It was pretty gag-worthy.  And I'm not super sensitive to smells, so he must have bathed in the stuff it was so strong.  Also, can I ask why you've been hesitant to add weights to your workouts?  I really think that some lifting/strength training will give you the boost you need to get over your plateau.

  • Last night was my shoulder and arms lift. I had planned on doing chest and back but I found a really good superset workout and got excited to try that. It was hard but definitely worth it.

Maribeth: I agree with jude, and am curious why you're hesitant to add weight? Especially after you've been such a beast in the cardio dept, adding some muscle could really help your body burn any fat stores, so you don't plateau. I have some good sites and workout splits (schedules) to go over form and technique.

  • medic- you CAN do this!  Best of luck :)
  • Jude: In the past when I have worked with weights I feel like all it did was build muscle under my fat, essentially pushing my fat out more and made me look bigger. I also was about 15 lbs heavier then and I did not really adjust my diet. The only cardio thing along with eating habit changes was really working for me so I wanted to stick with it as long as it was working. Now I feel like it's stopped working so I need to make a change. In my previous lifting experience I worked with a trainer for a bit - who I did not love. She made me do exercises I HATED, not because they were hard, they were just awkward. Like a lot of machines involved which took forever to get set up and almost always involved a spotter. Well I'm at the gym at 5am and alone a lot so not possible. I also enjoyed working with free weights a lot more, I felt like I would accomplish more. So I feel like I don't really know what I'm doing either in terms of lifting. Sorry that ended up being way longer than I anticipated lol.

  • maribeth: I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with a trainer.  I think free weight exercises are better, in my opinion, than machines but if you aren't sure what you're doing then (just once or twice) have a trainer show you how to do them properly to avoid injury.  Just get started with some simple dumbbell routines, you don't have to go crazy.  Adding a lifting routine with all the cadio you do, you'll be burning much more fat.

  • Doing simple free weight exercises would be pretty beneficial, and it sounds like you enjoyed those better than the machines.  I rarely use machines when I lift.  Does your gym provide a trainer that could show you some free weight exercises and how to do them properly?
  • Thanks guys :) I love the support!!!! Really, logging into this board everyday and talking with everyone helps me so much. My gym does offer trainers, but they are super expensive and they make you sign up for a minimum amount of time soooo I'm just not going there. My FI is really into working out, always has been, so he's shown me some things to try. I go to an all women's gym so we don't work out together. I found this work out online that I hopefully will be testing out over the weekend!

  • Today I am about to heard out to the gym shortly and plan on doing the elliptical for a while and week 2 day 3 of c25k.

  • @maribeth - that looks like a great total body workout! If you start to incorporate weights into your workouts, it's really important you don't overwork a muscle group. Ie leave a rest day (or two) between lifting different muscle groups (I tend to break them down into: arms, shoulders, chest, back, legs). Basically you don't want to do that circuit workout two days in a row, you won't give your muscles enough time to recover. And circuits are great because you usually use a lighter weight and do more reps, and doing 4 exercises in a row like that really gets your cardio going too! I'm sorry you had a bad experience w/ a trainer, I'm like you in that I work out alone and sometimes at odd hours. I've created an entire workout routine so I don't need spotters, and I'm comfortable w/ each exercise. If you want more info, let me know!

  • Good morning, ladies.

I did a 1.5 hour spin class this morning, and I feel great.  Tomorrow will probably be a rest day, and we're planning a big hike for Sunday.

  • i'm afraid to work out right now.  I'm eating at maintenance (so 500+ calories more a day than I usually do) and just don't know if i can pull off eating enough if I burn.  I'm still going to do something like walk, but I'm just doing all I can to break this plateau
  • Good Morning Everyone!

Reading through the posts gave me some much needed motivation. I didn't make it to the gym last night as I spent much of the day writing and packing (we're moving to our new home this weekend). I'll do a strength circuit today and some cardio (running/eliptical) this afternoon. Hopefully going to the gym will give me the motivation I need to continued working towards my goal. I also figure moving and lifting boxes this Sunday will be another workout in of itself. :-)

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Are you sure it's Friday?  Feels like a Monday.

I had to be up at 5:30 to get to work by 7 today, so I'm going to TRY to do my Insanity workout tonight when I get home, but I just don't know if that's going to happen.

  • jude: Boxing Circuit was  a fantastic class!!  I drag my aunt and my dad to that class every week.  It's high intensity.  Don't eat a big meal before hand, our first 30 min is a lot of jumping and moving fast, so the first week I almost threw up from everything.

ibarr: Happy birthday to your mom!

I did 25 on wllyptical today, 20 on treadmill and 20 on bike, there were people filling up my stair masters so I couldn't go on.

I will say though, that my jeans are getting looser.  Unfortunately I hold weight in my stomach, so I haven't lost a size, but the leg part is definitely loser!!
  • Just got home from work after an inservice day today which equals tons of meetings. FI and I going out to dinner, so I'll be resting tonight which is a good thing since I am so sore from my workout last night. I did 45 minutes of intermediate Zumba and then busted my asss on Ripped in 30, Week Three. It felt amazing though, in the moment, to be dripping in sweat . . . OK, maybe amazing isn't exaclty the word.

ANYWAY, we are meeting with the florist tomorrow and then I plan on doing some more Zumba and Ripped in 30. I am keeping my fingers crossed we can pick up a treadmill this weekend, too.

    Happy Friday!!!!
