July 2012 Weddings

Which one of these vows do you like better

I, , take you,
to be my partner in marriage and in life.
I will love and honor you and take your side,
walk with you through life wherever it may lead, whatever may come.
I promise to be faithful and true from this day forward.

I promise to love you without reservation,
comfort you in times of distress,
encourage you to achieve all of your goals,
laugh with you and cry with you,
grow with you in mind and spirit,
always be open and honest with you,
and cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

  • Ugh I know, we can't decide lol
  • I like the first one, but they are both really nice. Could you combine them and do both or is that too wordy???

You will agree with him even when he is wrong. Yes I know we will all take our husbands for their faults but when someone is wrong and I know it, I cant help but to still have my own thoughts and feelings towards it. </div>

  • Something about the "love you without reservation" turned me off from the second one.

<div>I read the "take your side" to mean standing by your partner in life, not necessarily taking his side in an argument when he's wrong. </div>

  • I'm with Melissa over the same bit of wording but for a different reason.  I just think it doesn't flow with the rest of it.  Seems...blunt?  But that's not really the right now.  Not sure of why but it doesn't flow for me.

And be faithful and true from this day forward makes me think that someone wasn't before that.  Just my reading it that way.

Overall I think the second one just sounds better overall.

Could you combine the two?  Like maybe:

    I, , take you, ,
to be my partner in marriage and in life
I promise to love you without reservation,
comfort you in times of distress
walk with you through life wherever it may lead, whatever may come.
and cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

When I read the first one, that's the first thing that popped into my mind too... I think the "I promise to be faithful and true" part is nice, but just don't add the "from this day forward" if you use that.
  • Glad you like it!  And glad to hear that it's help some other people!

  • I like #2 better! But they are both nice.
