Re: Honeymoon plans

  • We're going to Oregon & Washington - flying into Portland, spending 2 nights there, then driving down to the town of Sisters in Willamette Valley for 2 nights at a B&B on a lake, then we're driving to Walla Walla, Washington for 3 nights at a B&B, then to Seattle for 3 nights before we fly home.

We're leaving a week after the wedding - flights around Labor Day were more expensive, and my brother & his girlfriend will be in town the week after the wedding and we don't get to see them often, so we're sticking around a few days.  I'm sure I'll regret it when I have to work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, but oh well!

Our honeymoon will be 10 days total - Sept 8th through 18th.

We're hoping to go hiking, do a hot air ballooning adventure, horseback riding, and lots and lots of wine tasting & brewery visits.  We want a few fancy dinners out (multi-course meals), and we want at least one day of just staying in the B&B, with the fireplace on and snuggling in the jacuzzi tub.

We have the flights booked, the B&Bs booked, and car rentals.  We still need to get hotels for Portland & Seattle, but we're planning on saving money by doing Priceline Negotiator for those two places, so we're waiting until mid-August to book those.  I still need to book a hot air balloon adventure!

    Calindi,
Would LOVE your trip! FI and I are trying to plan our next trip in 013. We're thinking of Portland to San Francisco or vice versa. We did Seattle a few years ago. We'll definitely go back! I would definitely recommend the Hotel Maxwell on Roy Street in Seattle. It's right by the Space Needle. If you watch it, you should be able to get it a good price. And if you get a chance we LOVED Victoria, BC. We took a ferry from Seattle to Victoria for a day. It's a long day, but beautiful. You will need a passport though. Just a thought!

Anyways, onto me! My FI is the trip planner. We have flights and hotels and a rental car booked to our trip to the Canadian Rockies. Our flights are even paid off! Wahoo! We get married on the 15th, and are leaving on Monday, the 17th. We fly to Spokane, WA (much cheaper than Calgary) and we drive about 6 hours to Banff Natl. Park. We're there 3 nights and then go north to Jasper Natl. Park for 4 nights. We come home the 26th around midnight.

There will be a lot of hiking and picture taking on this trip. Other than that, hot tub soaks and time by our fireplace. :)

We're taking a two-week honeymoon.  I know- it sounds lush- but we're seriously holding back with the wedding to be able to afford it (ie- no programs, minimal decor, calling in favors to help us with bartending, set-up, etc.).

We are leaving the Monday after our wedding.  We're flying out of Newark (flights from Philly were $200 more!!) into San Juan, PR and renting a car.  We're taking the ferry to Vieques (a small island 6 miles off the coast) and spending 2 nights/3 days there.  We're staying in a casita off of a guest house in Esperanza and plan to spend a lot of time on the islands many beaches, seeing the old navel ammunition storage facility, and hanging out on the Malecon.

Then we'll head back to San Juan for the rest of the first week.  We're staying in a privately owned condo on the beach in the Condado district.  We're taking 2 day trips to El Yunque rain forest/Luquillo Beach and Guavete for lechoneras.  We're also going to spend time exploring Old San Juan and laying on the beach (Isla Verde or Carolina Beach) sipping mojitos and pina coloadas.  We might visit the Bacardi rum factory, but we'll see :)

After our week in Puerto Rico, we'll board Carnival Victory and spend the next week visiting the ports of Barbados, St. Kitts, St. Thomas, St. Maarten, and St. Lucia.  I have pages of things we can do in each place (still working on completing some ports), but I know we definitely want to swim with the sea turtles in Barbados and spend some time at Orient Beach in St. Maarten- it's clothing optional and let's just say I'm NOT shy :p

We fly back on a Sunday and go back to work the following Tuesday.  I'm already dreading my alarm clock going off at 6am that day haha.  I wish we could take a whole MONTH for our honeymoon!!!

Our flights are booked & paid for, casita in Vieques is booked & paid for, condo in San Juan is booked & partially paid for, rental car is booked & paid for, and cruise is booked & paid for.  We just need to finish paying off the condo rental and then plan/pay for our cruise excursions!
  • Cate- let me know how the hot air ballooning is! I've always wanted to go.  I went to that area years ago on a work trip but absolutely loved it.  If you're in OR you should go to the Columbia River Gorge and hike up the beautiful waterfalls.  It's totally worth it http://www.crgva.org/

We are going to Secrets Maroma Beach and I cannot wait!  We're leaving the morning after our wedding on an early flight and staying for 10 days in a swim out room.  Our resort is AI so we don't have to worry about anything when we get there.  I would love to go on some day adventures like snorkeling or horseback riding but I also plan on relaxing on the beach with my new hubby and a good book!  Our trip will be paid off soon and our flights are also booked and paid for.  I just need to shop for some new bathing suits :-)
  • How are you ladies all doing with honeymoon plans?  Most everything is booked, I think!  We are going to Trinidad and Tobago.  We got our yellow fever and typhoid vaccinations, so we are ready to go!

What do you have booked, what do you have left to do?  Or is your FI taking care of all the plans?

We planned the trip together.  Though, before we decided, FI said, let's go to Trinidad and Tobago, figuring I wouldn't say yes.  But I did, so we are :-)  The flights and hotels are booked.  We were able to use air miles for the portion to Miami, then got a good deal on the flight to TnT.  We will be flying to Miami for a night, then off to Trinidad for a night, then to Tobago for just over a week, then back to Trinidad, then to Miami and home.

How long after your wedding are you leaving?  How long are you going for?

We are leaving the Monday after our Saturday wedding and will be gone for two weeks.  I can't waiti!!

What activities do you want to do on your honeymoon?

I really hope we get to see sea turtles, either nesting or baby turtles!  I love them!!  We also got SCUBA certified so we can go diving there.  I also want to take in some of the rainforest and waterfalls in the area, as they sound beautiful.  Otherwise, I want to lay on the beach or by the pool and read and relax.

Once upon a time, there was a boy who loved a girl, and her laughter was a question he wanted to spend his whole life answering.
  • We are going to Puerta Vallarta and staying at the Secrets that was just built this spring.  We are leaving the Monday after the wedding and staying 8 nights.  We just need to decide if its cheaper to park our car at the airport, or hire car service to bring us.

We are just going to decide on activities when we are there.  The honeymoon package includes massages and dinner on the beach and a couple other things.  I know FI wants to go golfing one day.  I want to do some kind of a splurge activity like swim with the dolphins.   My ultimate goal though is to lounge around and have lots of sex :)
  • We are going to Italy leaving the Thursday night after our Sunday wedding. We fly into FLorence where we will stay in a village just outside for a week, then take the train to Rom for three days before returning. Flights, lodging and car are all booked.   I'm super excited about it!  I've never been to Eurpoe.

  • We are all booked! Our HM sounds nuts, but we got a VERY generous gift from his aunt and uncle. We are flying from JFK to Prague and staying 4 nights there. I'm not sure exactly what we will do there- still in the planning stages but I"ll for sure want to explore the city and take at least one day trip outside the city. Any recommendations? Then we take a train to Munich for the start of Oktoberfest. I'm SO EXCITED. That'll just be 4 nights of crazy beer drinking and castles, I'm sure. Then we take a train to Vienna for 4 more nights. We'll explore the city and then either take a day trip to Bratislava or Budapest. I'm trying to decide if Budapest is to far. I also want to go to Melk, if we have time. I've never been to Europe and neither has FI so we are stoked.

  • How are you ladies all doing with honeymoon plans?
Pretty decent but we need to wrap up some loose ends and figure out our itinerary.

What do you have booked, what do you have left to do?  Or is your FI taking care of all the plans?
We've been working on it together but FI is the lead planner since I've been the driving force for all of the wedding stuff. Flights and hotels are booked but activities aren't yet. We're going to Hawaii and spending 5 days in Kauai then 5 days on the Big Island.

How long after your wedding are you leaving?  How long are you going for?
We're leaving the Monday afternoon after the Saturday wedding. 10 days total in Hawaii... can't complain about that!

What activities do you want to do on your honeymoon?
Swimming, surfing, hiking, scuba diving, check out the volcano, maybe a helicopter tour, and lots of relaxing! I definitely want to us to rest and eat lots of good food and drinks with some adventuring as well. I'm really looking forward to just hanging out together without any responsibilities!

  • We are going to Maui, the flight, rental car and hotel are booked.  I am generally the one that handles travel arrangements, I love to travel so I love doing all of the research and planning things out.

We are leaving the day after our wedding, which in hindsight was probably a bad idea since our reception ends at 12 and our flight is at 11 the next day but I'm sure we'll manage.

As far as things to do... I want to go snorkeling at the Molokini crate, bike ride down the Haleakala crate (although I hear that if you go with a tour group they make you ride close to 20mph and since i'm a walking calamity that might be a bad idea), FI likes fishing so we will probably go sport fishing for a day, drive the road to hana, take a flight out to oahu and visit pearl harbor and there are a bunch more things but since we are going for 8 days there's only so much we can do.

Smartlypretty - your trip sounds amazing...

  • Ours is booked and paid for. FI is planning it, so I don't know quite all the details. I know that we're going to Los Cabos for 7 nights, 8 days. We're staying at the Melia Cabo Real. There is a day trip to the Cabo Wabo Cantina and to visit downtown Cabo. I know there's also a catamaran excursion that includes our choice of snorkelling or kayaking, a bbq lunch made by their chefs on the beach we dock at, and a free open bar on the catamaran.

Ooooh!  Some of my favorite cities!  Okay, in Prague, there's a day trip to a church made entirely of bones.  It's really creepy, and super cool.  Highly recommended!

In Munich, you must go to the Augustiner restaurant on the main drag near the Glockenspiel - it's so much better than the Hofbrauhaus (though you should still go there).  There's a free walking tour that meets twice a day near the Glockenspiel - Sandemans is the name, and it's FANTASTIC!  It was easily our favorite part of our trip.  You just tip at the end - probably 5-10 euros each, but it's worth every penny!  Try weisswurst - it's the breakfast sausage, and is amazing.  For a day trip, take the train to visit the Andechs Monestary.  It's in a gorgeous little lakeside town that's great for a break from the city (especially during Oktoberfest madness) and a great distance for a day trip.  You can hike up the mountain or take the bus, and they have great beer and good traditional food.  We took the bus up and hiked back down, and it was fantastic!  We had dinner by the lake, and it was so romantic.

In Vienna, the best weiner schnitzel is at Figlmuller near the St. Stephen's Cathedral.  Oh... my.... goodness!  Call a day ahead for reservations, and be sure to order the potato salad.  The catacombs tour in the Cathedral is super cool, and really worth it - it was my FI's favorite part of our trip.  Also, you can get 2 euro standing-room only tickets to see the National Opera if you line up out back 2 hours before the show.  I saw La Traviatta that way the first time I went to Vienna, and it was breathtaking.  They have screens that will translate the songs into English (or German, as most operas are in Italian), which is pretty awesome.  See which operas are in town the days you're there, and if you see one you like, buy some snacks and munch them while you wait!

FI would know more about Budapest as he studied abroad there, but I've never been.  He says it's wonderful, though.  Oh, I'm so jealous of your trip!  We did Vienna, Munich and Paris two years ago.  I've done Vienna & Prague on my own back in my college days.  We're hoping to do one more big trip before we have kids, we plan to do a 2-3 week trip to Thailand and Vietnam around our one year anniversary.

  • We planned our honeymoon together.  We are leaving the morning after our wedding and we are flying to PuntaCana for 2 weeks :)  I really want to try some scuba diving, snorkeling, wave runners, chartering a boat for fishing etc.  We are about half way done with the payments (wish it was fully paid for already but.. we are getting there)
  • Flights & hotel booked for Riviera Maya!! We'll be leaving the morning after the wedding (which kinda stinks) and staying 6 nights. We will be researching excursions while we're there and have nothing set in stone just yet.

    CANNOT WAIT!

  • We're going to Maui and Oahu for two weeks! All we have booked so far are the flights.

We're leaving the morning after the wedding, because we wanted to be romantic, but we might just be dumb instead, considering our reception goes until midnight and the flight is at 9:30 AM!
  • We're going to Secrets Maroma Beach in Mexico. We're leaving the Monday after the wedding and coming back the following Monday. We booked the HM back in January and put a deposit down, as well as purchased our plane tickets. The balance is due next month, and we also still need to buy luggage. I also want to buy at least 1 more bathing suit and maybe a new outfit or 2.

We're still very early in the planning stages.  Need to buy plane tickets this weekend.  We're going over Christmas break.  I'm a teacher and he's working on a 2nd B.A. so we  both have 2 weeks off.
  • How are you ladies all doing with honeymoon plans? Great, I can't wait!

What do you have booked, what do you have left to do?  Or is your FI taking care of all the plans? FI and I discussed what we wanted to do and then I went ahead and booked the trp. We have a balcony room overlooking Central Park on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas. We leave out of Ft. Lauderdale and and are going to the Bahamas, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas. Cruise, airfare, and hotel are all booked and paid for!

How long after your wedding are you leaving?  How long are you going for? We are leaving two weeks after our wedding. FI is in another wedding the week after ours, so we could not miss it! We will be spending 7 nights on the cruise and 1 night in Ft. Lauderdale.

What activities do you want to do on your honeymoon? We definitely want to take the boat over to St. John when we are in St. Thomas and spend time at Trunk Bay. (SO beautiful!) No other excursions planned as of yet, looking forward to relaxing and spending time with FI. :)

What do you have booked, what do you have left to do?  Or is your FI taking care of all the plans?  We planned ours together. We are going to an all-inclusive resort in Aruba. We really wanted to go somewhere Caribbean but were having a hard time figuring out where to go because our Honeymoon will be at the beginning of October which is still considered hurricane season. Finally we heard about the ABC islands- Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, that are supposedly more sheltered from the possibility of storms and liked Aruba the best!

How long after your wedding are you leaving?  How long are you going for? We are leaving the morning after our wedding and are going for 9 days.

What activities do you want to do on your honeymoon? The AI we're going to includes all non-motorized water sports and I think we both really want to try snorkeling and parasailing. Mostly we're both looking forward to 9 days of relaxation and beach time since we haven't had a vacation since last May.

  • To the ladies going to Secrets Maroma - My FBIL and FSIL are there right now on their honeymoon.  From what little I've heard, they love it, but I'll post back if I hear any tips on what to go for and/or what to avoid.

I loooooove travel planning and getting a good deal.  FI and I put together a trip where we saved a lot of money in some areas, so we've allowed ourselves to splurge in others.

FI and I are flying Chicago > Madrid, and Lisbon > Chicago all on points we got from introductory offers with credit cards from United and American Airlines.  From Madrid, we're flying to the canary islands and saying at an AI for 6 nights. Then we fly to Lisbon, where we'll stay for 4 days before heading back to Chicago.

Everything is booked and paid for except for our hotel in Lisbon. We have that one picked out, but I haven't pulled the trigger because I'm feeling a little guilty about the price.  We could get a nice hotel room for cheaper... but the place we're looking at is in a freakin' castle.

Our wedding is the 22nd and we're leaving late afternoon on the 24th. We have a 6hr drive from our wedding location back to Chicago, so we won't have too much time to laze around on the 23rd.

On vacation I want to lay on the beach and not worry about getting tan/burn lines that will show with my dress. I'm also looking forward to doing lots of wandering and exploring in Lisbon. I've heard it's a really easy city to get around, and very beautiful.
