Ocean Front Restaurants for Kona or Princeville Reception

Any thoughts? or good experiences? We will have about 30 guests. Trying to find someway to stay within budget, and I thought a restaurant woulld be a good idea.

Re: Ocean Front Restaurants for Kona or Princeville Reception

  • Do you mean Kona, Big Island, or Princeville, Kauai?
  • I meant either. We are considering both, although now I think we are leaning towards Kona, Big Island.

<div>Ahh.... I live on Kauai so Kona restaurants are definitely not my specialty... sorry!  BUT I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend that during your stay on Big Island you do some type of Mauna Kea sunset and stars tour. My fiance and I did it a couple years ago and it was amazing. Some companies will pick you up at your hotel and then drive you to the base of Mauna Kea where you can eat a small dinner... then they take you up to the top where you watch the sun set... then they take you a little lower with a super high powered telescope to look at the stars and the planets. Breathtaking!</div><div>

I know! It really is amazing up there! We stayed after sunset and looked at all of the starts and planets through a bunch of telescopes set up. I have never seen that many stars before, absolutely breath taking! One of the reasons I feel in love with Big Island!
  • We had our "welcome dinner" in liu of a rehearsal dinner at Huggos 75-5828 Kahakai Rd
    Kailua Kona, HI 96740 (808) 329-1493

This is the review that I wrote up on Yelp:

When we got rejected to have our rehearsal dinner at Kona Brewery, my MOH found this gem of a spot. I'm not sure who she spoke with to make all the accommodations but they did an EXCELLENT job! A month later and our guests are still talking about our wonderful dinner! Not only is a prime spot to watch a beautiful sunset, the wait staff were incredible and on top of their game, the food and drink were delicious (although we did have to send some under-cooked mahi mahi back, which they replaced with new pieces) and the ambiance was AMAZING! We had a party of 25 and the pre-set menu was their Surf-n-Turf. Huggos printed up special menus just for us with our names on it, which added a nice touch. And since everyone in our party was responsible to pay for their own drinks, Huggo's staff took the extra step to bill everyone separately...which was also very nice.  Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better venue to hold our rehearsal dinner. Thank you, Huggo's, for the memories.

I would highly recommend this place to anyone....seriously! 5 months later and we are still talking about how amazing our Kona wedding was. The Surf-n-Turf menu came out to be about $40/pp but 100% worth it! Hope that helps.
