Groom's Gift?

Hey Ladies :) I intro'ed myself here, and I lurk a bunch but I am mainly active on the MB board... anyhoo... I was wondering what you did as grooms gifts (if you did/are doing them)?

I am stumped. FI reads a ton (I mean a ton!) He has a kindle already, and it's almost scary to get him books because he has SOOOO MANY, it's likely that he's read what I would get him. He loves planes/flying, he's athletic....

I wanted to do Boud- pics for him but alas I couldn't find anyone in my area that I wanted to use. That'll have to be an anniversary present lol...

anyway, I guess I'm wondering what you ladies did or suggestions of neat grooms gifts that you have seen? I know people say to shop like it's their birthday, but I personally would like to get him something more keepsake and personal, not something that will become outdated or he will wear out in a few years.

TIA!

Re: Groom's Gift?

  • My FI's father passed away a few years ago.  I asked FI's mom for one of his dad's retirement pins from the airline he retired from.  I engraved it with our wedding date.  I figured FI could wear it for the wedding if he would like and still have his dad with him when we get married.

I think something that you could engrave with a special saying or date that is important to him or you both would be a nice gift.

I wanted to give FI something that he can wear at the wedding, and also that would be useful and unique. I came up with an engraved pocket watch! I know they aren't "in style" any more, but I think its a really cool gift, and there are some AWESOME pocket watches on etsy. And I do mean super cool :P

Shop around on etsy a little to get some ideas. Chances are youll come across something that is unique, since theyre mostly handmade items (or theyre supposed to be anyways) and the sellers are usually willing to work with you on customizing your items. Its worth a shot!

  • little- that is really sweet :)

lunar- do you have any suggestions of any shops you looked at on etsy that caught your eye? I have been browsing there and I've seen a few things that are nice, but nothing that has really jumped out at me yet.
I've thought about getting him a dog tag that has our wedding date on it and a scripture along with a short message, but in some ways I feel that might be too cliche, and it's something he won't really wear unless he's wearing his tags for work... As much as he likes his job, I'm wary of getting him something that is too related to his job if that makes sense.

    Thanks again!

  • Sure! Theres the link I posted above if you liked the pocket watch idea, and Im not sure if hes a beer drinker or cigar smoker (FI likes to indulge in the latter occasionally, and the former daily, lol) but were getting the guys either monogrammed beer steins (this is a lot of 5- but they also sell individual mugs -  http://www.etsy.com/listing/70042984/wedding-5-huge-1-liter-beer-steins ) or personalized cigar humidors (this one caught my eye because of the military insignia. Maybe you can incorporate his troop without it being too work related - http://www.etsy.com/listing/80655305/personalized-humidor-custom-engraved?ref=sr_gallery_7&ga_search_query=cigar+humidor+groomsmen&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_type=handmade )

  • This might sound weird, but I got him a Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville blender. He has always wanted one, and he wanted to put one on the registry. I vetoed that and instead decided to just buy it for him as a wedding present. :)

  • I did do a boudoir shoot and had a professionally bouch book made with the photos.  I'm also getting him a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue and a 3D groom's cake of a Jets football helmet!  I'm so excited - hopefully he has no idea about any of it!
