registry wording

We are in our 40's, second wedding, both previous marriages ended 10 + years ago.
We have no idea if we will be receiving gifts but both families are gift givers in general and some of our older relatives have asked if we'll have a registry. We have a wedding website where we would put our registry info, wedding and reception info., pictures of our families etc. -we know not to put it on invitations or tell people if they don't ask.
On the website registry section, it says something like, "our registry, our style" and give us a spot to write something if we choose to. Can we write something like, "we have a few things on our wish list but don't care if they're from Walmart or Macy's" ? ( I promise not to actually write that!) We would go with registry.com where we can add things from Amazon to Ikea to Walmart.

Re: registry wording

  • I think that's fine as long as you find a better way to say it. Hahaha!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I wouldn't - people know they can bargain shop if they want to.  I often give the same gift bought at a different store because the prices are better.

I've heard negative things about registry.com

Amazon.com's wedding registy is similar in that you can add items from any website to the amazon registry.  This is what we used, and it worked out fairly well.  each item has room for 'notes' so for example - our silverware was on amazon, but it was also on bed bath beyond and macys.  so I added the amazon item (it was cheapest!) and then in the notes said "this item is also avilable through bed bath and beyond and macys"

As far as wording, I simply stated on the wedding webpage that  "items can be found at multiple stores.  Please just remember to take it off the registry if you are purchasing elsewhere"

everything went fairly smoothly -- we still have our registry up for things like christmas and birthdays - our family loves it! =)

<div>I agree with this.  People will figure it out, and if you end up having to return a duplicate or two, you'll manage.</div><div>
</div><div>Also, you mentioned myregistry.com and wanting to add things from Amazon.  I would recommend registering at Amazon and using the universal registry feature through Amazon to add things from other stores/websites.  We did that, and it worked well.  As a guest, I love buying off of Amazon--I'm familiar with it, it's easy to shop, and free shipping.</div>
  • Thank you! I didn't know Amozon's universal registry worked that way, I thought it was universally for Amazon but I'm glad to hear we can add from anywhere. I like the idea of saying items are available at multiple stores.

<div>I think you have to install a button for your browser, and then you just click the button to add things from another website.  </div>
