Sand Ceremony at a Catholic Wedding

My fellow wants to be married in a Catholic Church.  We are both Catholic, and I don't care either way.  However I have my heart set on doing a sand ceremony, not a candle lighting... is that possible?  Can we both be happy? :-(

Most Catholic priests will work with you to make your wedding yours within certian aspects, that being said...MANY IF NOT ALL cerimonies using fire will substitute it for another substance. I know from personal experience that in my aunt and uncles wedding they used some kind of liquid (i believe oils) in vase-ish-thingys rather than candles in their unity cerimony which took place in a catholic church; their reasoning for this however was that there were small children (myself and my cousins) involved in the cerimony (as RBs and FGs) who would be too close for fire to be a comfort.

This was 12 years ago, I was 7 and my cousins were 9. It is to date one of 3 Catholic weddings i've been too and the others both used candles.
