what would you think if...

background info- wedding chapel is closing up shop so we got the boot. Our reception is scheduled and paid for at One Under Bar and Banquet. (bar on 1st floor, banquet hall on the top floor, 2 separate entrances.) Our wedding date is Wednesday Feb 29th, Leap Day. So there is likely many people who won't come because of the Wednesday date. The reception is scheduled to start at 6pm, but we can move that time around accordingly.

Here's a thought... since it is a Wednesday evening, what would you think if we had the ceremony at the reception site? I've seen this before on shows like "Four Weddings" which is where i got the idea. So our guest would come to the reception site around 530/6 (Not sure yet). The reception site would be set up in that formation not a chapel setting. So people would be sitting at the round tables, centerpieces and all. There are 2 locations within the hall which would be nice backdrops.   in front of a beautiful fireplace or in front of closed french doors that lead to the balcony. Both would be very nice.

So... A during the week wedding would you rather drive to 2 locations (chapel and reception site) or rather watch the ceremony at the reception site and not have to deal with driving around (which would also save us time with driving)...

Thoughts? advice?
*Note- the date is non negotiable.

No matter what the date, it's generally always easier for people if the ceremony and reception are in the same location.

Depending on how many people you are anticipating, I think you can easily get away with your idea and it would probably be the best bet.

yah... sorta what i was thinking. our GL is about 100 people.. but likely less the 75 people would actually come. i think there will be something like 8-10 tables with 100 guest. ( i believe i remember the guy saying)

I was thinking we could decorate the fireplace with a ton of beautiful candles and since we aren't having a large wedding party (Just me, FI and his daughter and 2 sons) this might be a nice option for us.

I think that would be fine! As a guest, no matter what day the wedding is, I'd rather just go to one place for both the ceremony and reception.

Ceremony+reception at the site is always the most preferred and since your wedding is on a weekday, it may work better for you and your guests. Hopefully your venue can work it out for you :)

My only concern is the centerpieces getting in the way of peoples view. If "Mike" is sitting at Table 8 - Table 8's centerpiece may not be a problem but Table 6's may be, so please consider that.

Other than that, I wouldn't mind. I like the idea (weekday or not) of having it all at the same location.

Regardless of the day (although especially midweek!) I'd definitely prefer to only drive to one location as a guest. I think it sounds like a great idea because you won't have to worry about rush hour or any other hassles- it will also be winter and the weather could be unpredictable so the less driving the better!

I agree with all the prior posters........having it in one location is always a good idea, especially in the middle of the week and winter.

I wouldn't worry about people being able to see: it's my experience that if they cannot, and want to, they'll move around and stand or something so they can see. I'm assuming the chairs can be moved or people can get up and stand along the edges or something.

    Good luck.

agree with PP, have it in one location, and if you haven't planned centerpieces yet, stick with low ones.  If you've already got high ones,  agree with Sue - people will move :)
