Pasta Meal

So I am trying to figure out how much to order based off of peoples food preferences. Which pasta dish would you order? And would it be inappropriate for me to have people make a selection on their response card even if we are actually doing a pasta buffet bar?

I think it's okay on the RSVP card, struck me as odd at first, but there's nothing wrong with it.  Also, will there be other food choices (a vegetarian pasta option?)?

I didn't vote because I'm with peanutty about the vegetarian option.  (Although I might have to get fettucine alredo for dinner when we go out tonight...I'm hungry for pasta now!)

I don't see the point to having people RSVP for a buffet.  It could give you an idea of who will eat what, but there's no way to control who takes what, so food choice RSVPs would give a very rough estimate and probably not be really useful, IMO.  You can't go up to your guest that's serving herself spaghetti and tell her that she can't have the spaghetti with meatballs beause she RSVPed for the alfredo.  Know what I mean?

None of the people we are inviting are vegetarians so not really an issue for us. Here in Nebraska most people eat meat.  I would not expect everybody would for sure get what they rsvp'd for just that it is ok to ask to get an idea of how much to order of each

If I was going through that buffet I would like to have a little bit of spaghetti and some chicken alfredo...is that an option and how can I indicate that on the RSVP without looking like a pig? (haha)

I would not ask for an RSVP if you are doing a buffet.  I don't think it would really be helpful.  Just keep asking people you know which they think would be most popular, or leave it up to your caterer.  Even if I gave an RSVP for something, once I got there and saw it was a buffet, I would probably end up taking a little of 2 or more anyway.

Don't do response cards for a buffet. That makes no sense.  Trust me, your caterer will know how much of each thing to prepare and it should be plenty.  For example, they may know that typically only 1/2 of guests take the scampi, but 90% of guests take the alfredo.  They know these things and will plan accordingly.

I concur that your caterer should be able to figure it out! I definitely wouldn't do RSVP cards about it, because it might give the impression you're doing a served dinner. One idea if you really want to try go get feedback would be to put a poll on your wedding website, but I'm not sure if that's "appropriate" or not.

I agree that you should NOT have the buffet choices on response cards.  Lets say for example that the overwhelming majority of your guests rsvp for the spaghetti and meatballs and the chicken alfredo (yummm im hungry now!! haha).  A handful might rsvp for the shrimp scampi...what if you decide that not enough people like shrimp scampi so you decide not to serve it? Those scampi people might be dissapointed and confused.  Plus people may not understand its a buffet dinner and they may think that what they rsvp for is exactly what they are guarenteed.  Your caterer should know how much of each to order based on your final guest count. Your cater will also know if alfredo is the more typically popular dish, and perhaps you can get a second tray of that one.  Good luck and yummm!

Why would you put meal choices for a buffet on the RSVP card? I genuinely don't understand.

If I RSVPd for food, then there was a buffet, I would be really confused.

As great as the options sound, I wouldn't eat any of it. I'm allergic to seafood and for medical reasons I can't eat pasta.  So...

Is there a way to do a non-pasta option?  A chicken or something?  Pasta is a great way to cheaply feed a lot of people (and you can really make it taste good), but for some of us it's terrible for our health.

But then, I'm an exception.  Most people don't have dietary restrictions.  I just think you should make a reasonable attempt to accomodate those who do.  My pasta limitation is somewhat unusual.

I'm with Rebecca, I cannpot eat pasta due to medical reasons.  Some people call it an allergy to wheat.  Anyways, you might want to have another option for those who either cannot eat pasta or just don't care for it, and don't care for seafood.  Just a thought.
