Bridal shower invite size?

So I have a big family, like yikes. My grandparents weren't kidding when they started having kids haha. Anyways, how many people do you usually invite to your bridal shower? I worry that mine is going to be too big or something. My list is mainly my closer aunts & cousins, my grandmother along with mom & step mom, & some ladies from M's side of the family with whom I"m getting close with. So is it possible to have too big of a group?

Re: Bridal shower invite size?

  • The size of the shower is up to the host or hostess.  I would find out how many people your host/hostess is comfortable inviting.  For example, if it's in her home, then you might be limited to 20ish people, whereas if it's in a restaraunt she may be able to have more people.  Also, a bigger guest list means a bigger budget.   But yeah, it's definitely up to your hostess how many people are invited.

Also, keep in mind that it takes a really long time to open a lot of people's gifts.  I would figure at least 4-5 minutes per gift....so figure 45 minutes minutes or so for every ten guests, just for gift opening.

  • I'm a bridesmaid, I told the bride she can't invite more than 25, anything more than that is rude to assume I will pay for anything for her shower. You can always have more than 1 shower.
  • My mom threw my shower and invited 107 people, with 68 showing (a lot were from across the country, couldn't come but still shipped gifts).  This is about the normal size for showers that I've been to.  Just to note, do make sure there is enough time for gifts.  I needed about 2 1/2 hours for opening gifts.  It definetly got tiresome Frown
  • Okay, this is all great to know. Thank you ladies for your advice!!
  • My mom invited 71 people (every single woman on the guests list) and 38 came.

  • My shower is this weekend and there will be close to 35 people there.  But like the previous posters said, it depends on where it will be held and the budget of whomever is hosting it.

  • Do I invite women from the grooms side? like his friends' wives whom I don't know that well? Just curious
  • You don't invite anyone.  Your shower host does the inviting.

Ask whoever offered to throw the shower how many people she would like to invite, and give her a list.  Typically showers are no more than 25 invited.

I personally wouldn't invite them.  Have your host invite people you know and are close to, IMO.

<div>Just those that you are close with. For me we'll be inviting his mother, sister & grandmothers because I see them often and feel very much like family with them long before we were engaged. </div>
