Good Morning!

How is everyone?

Had a lazy evening- hubby made cream of mushroom chicken w/ cheese on top- it was yummy!

I have a deposition today for the car accident I was in 3 years ago- and the lady is just now deciding to come after me, she
a. stopped at a green light and I couldn't stop fast enough
b. isn't out of pocket any money
c. refused medical attention
d. didn't try to sue for almost three years.

needless to say- I'm annoyed- and a little nervous.

Oh I don't think I was clear. We are throwing the party and I think I'm going to do all 5!
It's a BYOB situation, so we won't need any more alcohol.

Basically last weekend H got drunk and told everyone we were having a party so now I'm throwing something together. I'm not even mad, I'm really excited! Less time to plan = less time to stress.

It's funny you say that, because I'm on a professional board that is putting together a conference for next year, and we're having an entire one hour session on putting all these political terms into terms people can understand... and fiscal cliff was the number one thing people wanted to know about!

So um, no, I don't know what it means, BUT I can tell you that you're not the only one.
  • Morning, I was pretty lazy yesterday I went to my appointment and my boss said it was fine to work from home when my mom goes in for her surgery.
    Which helps everyone a TON.

    Those sound delicious.

and I want to know what that is too. it has been bothering me.

  • No-it's in the news- it has to do with taxes- i think. it's super confusing though.

  • Morning!

That article is simply put and to the point without all the he said-she said that seems to be going around on tv.  totally confusing.

I'm wrapping gifts today, writing a paper, and trying to decide what the next holiday treat I make will be.  It's still so early.
  • Morning ladies!

Swag- all of that sounds delicious!

I'm need to clean the bathrooms and get working on a scarf I'm knitting for Christmas. I just satrted it, so I'm not sure why I thought it was a good idea, so now I'm determined. I think it'll be done with about 45 minutes of knitting a day.

I'm scaling back from 2-3 coffees a day, to one... any suggestions for making it easier? I have a dull headache, uhg. I know it's good though- with the holidays coming up, I'd be drinking more.

If my H wasn't busy I'd have him explain it in simple terms for me. All I know is the tax cuts expire on Dec 31st and the government needs to decide whether to continue the tax cuts, or let them expire. But this could be a detriment to our economy in a few ways.

Here is an article I think makes sense.

I did that earlier this year. Might as well get them all done at once, but I added a mammogram for good measure! ;)

  • My Husbands Answer:

The fiscal cliff is the Jan 1 expiration of several previous tax cuts (the Bush tax cuts, payroll tax cut of 2% on employees as part of the stimulus package, business tax rates, and shifting of the alternative minimum tax) plus cuts in spending (defense, Medicare) mandated by the debt ceiling deal last year known as sequestration - all; at the same time. Combined, the tax increases and spending cuts will take about a $ Billion/year out of the economy likely resulting in recession.
Their trying to negotiate a deal to increase revenues (the Dems want increased tax rates, the GOP wants to simply cut loopholes and leave rates where they are) and address the entitlement spending issues that are at the heart of the deficit. The Dems want to address spending later, while the GOP is insisting on Medicare/Medicaid/SS reform as part of the deal).

<div>Are you only making one? Or a couple of them? All of them sound really tasty so it's a tough choice.</div><div>
</div><div>I've made the buffalo chicken dip many many times and it's always a crowd pleaser which quickly disappears. I don't make any changes except that I use fresh chicken that I usually have on hand. My friends and I have potluck parties and that recipe is always requested.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm a huge fan of hummus too, so that sounds amazing as well. I've been wanting to do a roasted garlic hummus for a long time.</div><div>
</div><div>You could make both of those pretty easily, and have the same things to use as dippers like celery, carrots, crackers etc. </div><div>
</div><div>ETA: I didn't read all the posts before responding. If you're making all of them, that sounds really, really good. I think you have all the bases covered. For holiday parties, mulled wine is also nice and festive. And since you're adding all the spices to it, you can get away with using cheap wine. </div>

  • Getting ready for my last class of the day. I'm having them clean out their lockers and catch up on homework. Exciting.

I'm giving some serious thought to having a holiday party. We travelled all of last year and this is our first Christmas in the new house, so it might be nice...

And I booked DSs ticket back from his trip up here. His dad is booking the trip up here. I can't wait to see him! I might actually be looking forward to the holidays for the first time ever!

  • Edie, that's awesome! I watched it on Netflix while I was carving my Halloween pumpkin this year, lol! Working all day today and then finishing up my final assignment of the year tonight! Very excited for the break!

  • Swag - those all sound great! I always make the buffalo chicken dip also, people eat it up. The other one I do is baked brie - I've posted it before I think. If you want it, let me know.

Work is finally starting to pick up! AND so excited - they found a parking space for me in the garage = no more paying for parking or walking in the rain. Whoop! It completely made my day! It's like a $77/month raise!

I also decided I'm going to start back to the gym. I miss going to body pump. This job makes me home later, and FI had a fit about it, but being in shape and healthy is important. And TBH, I can afford to drop some lbs before the wedding. So yea, gym time is in my future.

OOH I've made that before and it's super easy! It's just a slab of brie covered with flaky crust and baked, right? I want your recipe!
  • Mmmmm! That's one of my favorites too! I really wish someone made GF puff pastry! I found a recipe, but it's intense and I'm really not willing to go there. Plus if it doesn't work I'd end up having one of my kitchen meltdowns, LOL!

I wrap it in puff pastry - then, cover it with egg wash and bake, then do this:

<p>1/3 cup melted butter</p><p>1/3 cup brown sugar</p><p>1 package assorted dried fruit (I usually do the antioxident package)</p><p>Craisins or dried cherries</p><p>1/3 cup toasted almonds or pecans</p><p>Place baked brie in a pie or quiche plate. Melt butter and brown sugar together, add fruit and almonds and pour over baked brie. Serve with fruit, crackers, or a thin sliced baguette. As it cools, the butter kind of hardens up, so I'll stick it in the microwave when needed.

FI's mom loves this recipe and it's what she always requests that I bring to get togethers. </p>
