Asking For Kind Thoughts from Fellow Future Brides

It's been a rough year for my FI and I and I'm just asking for you to please keep him in your thoughts/prayers/good wishes (whatever it is you do).  Nick has a congenital disease that has plagued him since birth, but in the last few years has pretty much left him alone. Back in November, it struck and his liver began to fail. They were able to medicate him and get it back to where it needed to be. In March, it acted up again, but the doctors were undecided on what the problem was, but it managed to straighten itself out in about a week. On May 14, he had his sixth open heart surgery to replace his aortic and pulmonary valves in his heart and repair part of his aorta. A few days after being discharged, he spiked a fever and we ended up back in the hospital for a few days. We got home and things went okay for about a week, and then we got a phone call from my 8-month pregnant sister, saying that she was headed to the hospital because she hadn't felt the baby move. We lost our dear sweet neice that night, and since my sister was so far along, she had to deliver the baby. Nick lost a little sister to the same disease he has, when she was 8 months old and he was 5 years old. Baby Cloey brought back all of the heartbreak that Nick went through losing his sister and we both took it very hard. Then on June 12, Nick began vomiting blood and we brought him back to the hospital. His liver is acting up once again, and now the talks are beginning about potentially doing a transplant.

tl:dr Nick is sick and we would appreciate the positive thoughts.

Thanks Knotties! Hope things in your lives are smoother than they are in ours.

  • Thoughts and prayers are sent you way! I hope he gets well and I know this will only make your marriage deeper and stronger by going through his illness together. My dad has severe heart disease for the last 12 years numerous operations and a point where we almost lost him. It is amazing to see how much love can do; I feel it's my mom, my brother, and I that kept him fighting no matter how terrible the pain was. My prayers have been answered that he is well enough to walk me down the aisle next June and I pray your miracle happens so you can grow old with Nick!
  • Thank you so much ladies. We both appreciate the kind words and thoughts. He has done really well today, and they're talking about putting a pickline (an iv that goes into a bigger vein) into his arm so that we can go home and just administer the antibiotics ourselves. Hopefully we will be home in time for the services. Thank you all so much your your kind words and positive thoughts.
  • My thoughts are with you, Nick and your family. I truly hope everything turns out well for you guys. To put a positive spin on it, for a liver transplant you only need a lobe, not a whole liver. So he can really get part of a liver from anyone who is a blood match. It's a lot easier to get a liver transplant than many other organs, so should he need one it should go pretty smoothly I would think. Either way, know that we're all thinking about you and wishing you all the best. This will only make you stronger as a couple in the end.

  • Thanks so much for your continuing support ladies, Nick got a pick-line inserted in his arm today so that we can go home and I can administer his antibiotics at home. He's starting to feel better, little by little, and I have no doubts that all of the positive vibes and good thoughts have been a tremendous help. You all rock.
  • I've been away from the board for a few days, but my heart is breaking for you. Stay strong and know that you, Nick, and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers. Please keep us posted. ::Hugs::

  • Hey ladies! Nick and I are home safely and as I type, giving him his second dose of antibiotics through his picc line. He has been phenomenal through this whole ordeal, and we are supposed to recieve a phone call tomorrow to schedule an appointment with a new GI specialist to discuss where he stands as far as the idea of the liver transplant goes. We both appreciate the thoughts and prayers, (and though he'd kill me for saying this on here, lol he teared up reading some of your responses and outpourings of kindness.).
  • I am so sorry that you both have to go through all of this. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Nick, and his family. Please continue to keep us all updated.

  • Well, we officially have an appointment for Monday to discuss the idea of a liver transplant for Nick. For those curious about his illness, I'm including a link to the foundation for his syndrome.

  • Nick's appointment with his liver doc went well, so far, a liver transplant is not in his immediate future. They plan to watch him and see how he does, but right now he doesn't qualify. The memorial service for my sister's little girl was last night and went well. And his follow up with his cardiologist went perfectly today. We both appreciate the thoughts and kindness so much. You ladies are fantastic.
