"Group Honeymoon"

No, it's not what it sounds like!

We are thinking of taking a cruise to Alaska four our honeymoon. We've always wanted to and I don't think that we're going to pull off that trip to Paris for a few more years. We were thinking of having some close friends go with us, the ones we have talked about taking an Alaskan cruise with before. I mean, some extra company couldn't hurt, could it? Of course, we'll be getting separate rooms!

Has anybody thought of this or knows anybody who said screw the romantic honeymoon, I want to go and have fun with my friends at the same time?

That said, our wedding IS a ways down the road so, of course, I'm just talking right now, but.. well, I'm all about planning. So that's that.

I actually think it sounds like fun, especially since on a cruise you can either choose to hang out with people that you came with, or choose to do your own thing. With that said, I'd wait until at least a year out and decide then--you don't want to make any decisions now (like inviting them) and then change your mind closer to the wedding!

We delayed our honeymoon for a year so that we could afford the one that we really wanted. Personally, I wouldn't tag along on a friend's honeymoon.

My advice is that you have the rest of your lives to take vacations with friends or family, but you only get one honeymoon. Plan the HM you and your FI want. Who knows, you may love the trip so much that you'll want to repeat it again, and then you can plan a group trip.

We just cruised with friends a few months ago, and it was an awesome vacation, but very different from our HM the year before that was just us.

IMHO a HM is a time for newlyweds to get away from it all and just enjoy each other and their newlywed status. After all the stress and excitement from the wedding, it's great to go somewhere and relax with your new husband away from everything and everyone.

Ditto tldh, if friends of ours invited us to tag along on their HM, we would definitely decline the offer. Any other trip, sure!

it's YOUR hm. do what you want to do! if you want to share that time with others go for it! you wont be attached at the hip and can do different things. if the idea appeals to you then do it.

Thanks, you guys! If our friends said no, of course we wouldn't make them go. As far as time for ourselves... Of course that's on our minds, but we are thinking with something like a cruise there is enough room for us to be around friends if we wanted to or be alone if we wanted to. We have a few years to plan it, but thanks for the advice!

My EH and I had our best friends travel with us on our honeymoon. We took a cruise. They had gotten married a year before us, but they couldn't take a trip because she was in school. It was the best decision we made! We didn't spend 100% of the time together. The guys could do "guy things" and the girls went and did "girl things", it was very relaxing. We did some things together, and then we did some things as couples. I'd recommend it.

We're doing a Caribbean cruise the day after our destination wedding in New Orleans and there will be 18 other friends and family with us to continue the celebration. When we get back home, we're going to unpack, repack and head out on the romantic 10-day honeymoon for 2. I think it's going to be a blast, and you should do it if it feels right for you and your crew.
