I volunteered with Church Street Bridal Over the summer. They sell samples donated by bridal salons to support services for battered women. The salons get to take a tax deduction for the full retail value of the dresses they donate. Most leap at the opportunity to give them to CSB. Kleinfeld is their biggest donor. David's Bridal has never sent them a thing and wasn't even open to talking to them. I know people love their DB dresses, but I think it's a greedy company with it's eye only on profits. I think POB went seriously downhill when they were sold to the DB holding company.

Agreed.  It's just the company's way of trying to look good.

  • I find their choice of wording interesting. They will "ensure they are donated to our charitable partners wherever possible."  Seriously?  This sounds like nothing but a cop-out.  They may as well have said, "We'll make sure that the rest of the destruction doesn't happen publicly so that nobody gets upset."  There was absolutely NOTHING in that press release that made me think they're even remotely sorry for what they've done - just that they're sorry there happened to be witnesses.

The first girl in my college group of friends to get married (in 2000) had a POB dress.  I went shopping with her and it was an amazing experience.  I was a private shopping appointment,  We didn't even see any other people there.  We felt as if we had the entire staff's attention.

Cut to last year, when I went to a POB myself.  It was like a gussied up DOB.  Loads of people shopping, staff all over place...it was a frantic experience.  The physical space needed paint and some spurcing pretty badly.

I couldn't believe that Vera was letting her gowns be sold in that environment, but she made the deal with DB to sell that White line at those stores and also made a deal to sell her higher end gows at POB boutiques.

They make money had over fist.  People flock to them.  I wish people would go to the independent bridal shops instead.
