Do parents give speeches at the reception?

My reception vendor asked if anyone was giving speeches, and when I said my dad wanted to say something, she looked a little confused.

Is anyone's parent(s) saying anything? Should my dad say what he wants to at the RD and not the reception? If it makes any difference, FI and I are paying for the wedding, so it's not like he's thanking anyone for coming.

Ugh my dad wants to give a toast on behalf of the parents. He's paying for a good chunk of the reception so I'll let him. He swears it will be short.

My Dad will also be saying a short speech-that's weird that the person at your venue looked confused, it's very common from what I understand. I wouldnt make him say it at the RD, so that every one can here what he wants to say.

My parents are doing the opening to the rehearsal and a toast as well - it is customary to my understanding.

Dads are always fun at the mic; looking a little choked up, especially if they know their little girls are happy

We haven't really discussed toasts with anyone. I know our DJ will be contacted our parents and I believe our MOH and BM maybe to talk to them about doing toasts if they want. No one has brought it up to me. If they want to, I wouldn't have a problem with it. As long as they are fairly short and not too many of them.

My dad is giving a toast at the reception. Greg's dad will be giving a toast at the rehearsal dinner.

My parents are hosting.... my dad will of course be saying something. I dont think I have ever been to a wedding where the parents havent said something....

Both sets of our parents will each do there own speech, I have actually never been to a wedding were this is not done..

My mom and dad will both be saying something. They're also divorced, so it's not like my mom would let my dad speak on both of their behalves.

My parents nor FI's parents will be giving a toast. I don't think I've ever been to a wedding where a parent has, it's usually the best man and maid of honor. But I wouldn't find it strange if a parent did give one.

Usually the host says something, and then the MOH & BM have speeches. Since we're hosting our own, I'm not sure if my parents want to say anything. I'll ask when it gets closer.

FIL's will make a toast at the RL that they are hosting. My parents are hosting the wedding so he will 100% make a speech and welcome everyone to the wedding. Then the MOH and BM as well. Strange that your DOC thought this was weird...

Since my parents are paying for the wedding, they are the "hosts" so my dad is giving a "Welcome/Thanks or coming" speech towards the beginning of the reception. He is also giving a toast at the RD.
