Vendor reviews from a BM perspective

My good friend got married yesterday (and what a freakishly beautiful day for a January wedding!) and it was a blast!  I know I love the vendor reviews, so thought I'd share with you all.

Venue: Glastonbury Hills Country Club:  A-
They were wonderful to us!  From the moment we got there they were at our service, with instant drinks and cheese and crackers.  Then they were right there with tray after tray of hors d'oeuvres (all of which were delicious).  Speaking of food, it was all incredible.  The only complaint I had was that the salad course was a little blah, but there eggplant parm more than made up for it.  The venue itself is beautiful, and the staff was wonderful.  My only complaint was during the cocktail hour a couple of people came and went into the bridal suite which was mostly due to the way the area is set up.  It was right behind the bar, with no door or anything making it very easy.  I think it was not really an issue with the venue, but more with the people coming in an out.  The bride and groom didn't mind, but I would just prefer for my own wedding to be separated until that moment we're announced to make it a little more dramatic.

Photographer:  Sassy Mouth:  A
I really adored her.  She has a louder personality, which might not work with some people, but with our group it was perfect.  She kept us in line when she needed to, and got the required poses done quickly.  At the reception she was all over the place, and anytime we were taking a group photo on our own or anything she was right there.  I can't wait to see how they all came out!

DJ: Powerstation (I'm about 99% sure that's who it was): A
The DJ did a great job keeping people dancing and emceeing the event.  He even played one song request of mine off my iphone when he didn't have it himself.

Hotel:  Homewood Suites in Glastonbury: B
All in all, they were wonderful.  They allowed me to get a key to our suite the day before the wedding even though the bride hadn't checked in yet, so we could start getting ready for the rehearsal.  They also were great about calling us the morning of the wedding when anyone showed up (some of the bridesmaids didn't stay over) to check with us before giving the room number.  The only issue is one the bride told me.  Apparently, there was a slight issue with the blocked rooms.  I guess when the block was filled they never gave the bride a heads up to add more rooms, and they were supposed to get a free night for certain amounts of rooms booked.  That, and other guests ended up paying more than they should have.  So from my friend's advice, just make sure you check in frequently.  They did, however, allow anyone who wanted to an early check in, even though they said before they wouldn't be able to do that.

Rehearsal Dinner:  Adams Mill: B-
They were just ok.  A little too slow with the service, to the point were I was contemplating going upstairs to the bar to get my own drink.  The food was just alright.  Nothing overly special.

Hair/Makeup:  Friends of a bridesmaid: A+++++
One of our bridesmaids has a stylist and a makeup artist for good friends (lucky her) and they were wonderful.  They did 8 girls hair and makeup (including the bride) that day and everyone looked gorgeous.  One of the bridesmaid was just going to do her own makeup after several bad experiences in the past with wedding makeup, but after seeing how 2 of ours turned out decided to do it too.  They showed up bright and early and were wonderfully relaxing.  They made any changes we wanted.  My hair normally doesn't hold curls, but it still looks fresh today even after dancing all night and then sleeping on it!

BM Dresses:  Bridal Bells Boutique: B
The dresses were beautiful, but she just wasn't that pleasant to work with.

Flowers:  Stop and Shop Glastonbury: B
The flowers were beautiful, just not too sturdy.  Everywhere we went we seemed to leave a trail of petals and greens.  Luckily we still had plently left in our bouquets by the end of the night.

That's all I can think of for now!  All in all it was a great wedding!

It's nice as a BM you can do reviews here. I tried to give a negative review of a vendor that ruined a wedding I was at (a dj) and the people at wedding reports wouldn't let me do it, which stunk because the vendor had only positive reviews and because I couldn't provide a contract they disallowed the review. Makes you wonder...
  • I'm very surprised becsuse I've been to Bridal Bells several times for dress purchased there and also for alterations on david's bridal bridesmaids dresses and they were awesome! Maybe someone had a bad day! Their seamstress is extremely talented she can do different additions to dresses such as cap sleeves, flowy covers of back and other things. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. And cmac3504 - don't worry you are in good hands. Your dresses will be perfect I'm sure cause the few times I was a bridesmaid they were!
